There is an o ring between the oil filter housing and the block. I had the same problem, o ring cracked and oil leaked everywhere. Go to dealer to get new o ring, pull oil filter and unscrew mounting bolt. replace o ring and all done.

Oil leak in 96 odyssey

Do you see a huge oil puddle under the car after it sits overnight (it would be huge!)? If no then the engine is burning the oil, you don't see smoke because the catalytic converter burns it up.

Cant figure out oil leak on 96 jimmy oil .seems to be by the filter but not filter and where lines by oilfilter go to engine maybe???????????

Clean the area of any oil/ dirt. Remove oil filter and check only one round seal. Sometimes when filters changed the original seal can be left on. Replace and tighten filter and start engine. Have a light handy and watch the area for any leaks.

1997 2.2lt Odyssey has massive oil leak at back of engine, not valve cover gasket. Can not see well under fuel inject manifold. what could it be

Could actually be your oil filter itself. Try replacing it first, leaks around the gaskets of oil filters is not uncommon and I am not sure if it is from being installed too tight or not lubricating the rubber ring on the filter, but I have had this happen before and lost a lot of oil.
You will also want to check any sensors on the back of the block if there are any.I ran into a toyota this last week that was leaking oil from the oil pressure sensor on the block, so might be worth looking into.

How do i repair oil filter housing leak?

The oil is most likely leaking from the oil cooler seal. The oil cooler is the square aluminum piece that the oil filter screws onto. To replace the seal, remove the filter, remove both coolant hoses that attach to the cooler, remove the nut that secures the cooler to the block and slide the cooler off the tube. Replace the rubber o-ring seal which is available at the VW dealer. It's inexpensive. Replace everything in reverse order. Good luck!

I have a 96 honda odyssey leaking oil from the part the the oil filter is attach to between engine and oil filter. can that be replace?

On some of these there is a gasket between the engine and filter base that can be replaced. There are either 2 or 4 bolts that hold it to the block and can be taken off and replace the gasket. You need to contact the parts store and ask them if they show a gasket for your particular model of car. They will ask you engine size and so forth so have the information available for them when you talk to them.

Changing 1997 honda odyssey oil filter, any need to run engine first?

I have heard that a warm engine drains the oil better, and the contaminents are suspended in the oil, and not settled.
Hot oil is harder to deal with, but I understand that's it's a better method.
