Well you missed the most important step, a scan for fault codes, do that.

SOURCE: sluggish performance on 2000 Kia Sportage

My theory is that it could be the injectors clogging. You could first try running a higher octane fuel, then if that doesn't seem to help try using the minimal amount of gas, and add injector cleaner to the tank. If all of this fails to work you can take your vehicle to the dealership where they can run a system analysis on it and help you pinpoint the problem. Hope this was helpful. Please rate my solution, thanks.

SOURCE: 2000 kia sportage ex, 4 cyl.

Yes there is a sensor that controls Fuel/air ratio. It's called a MAF (mass air flow sensor)
But I think you should have the EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation)valve checked
and The TPS (throttle position sensor)maybe dirty.

Although may things can cause this issue,I would look at the items above first.

Please rate this a blue fixya

SOURCE: 2000 kia sportage. no start no spark no injector pulse.

check both of your fuse panels for a blown fuse. there's 4-5 that control the fuel pump, engine sensors, fuel injectors and such. one of those may be blown and not letting the rest of the system function. one panel is located under hood, and one is under the dash on drivers side. when you take the covers off they have the fuses numbered and tell what they control.

evap purge valve fault is your p0443
p1693 is manu. controlled aux input output fault
p1693 is a code for an open or short to ground for the check engine light
does it light up when key is on? if so then it is a left over code from some previous repair attemt
the evap code wont prevent starting
check for broken timing belt
check for fuel in tank and that it has proper fuel pressure

I need wiring connection details neutral safety switch. for Kia Sportage 2000 model two wheel drive automatic transmission.

The "neutral safety switch" has been incorporated into the more sophisticated "range switch" on modern vehicles. A range switch detects any selected shift lever position (not just park/neutral) and reports that information to the transmission control module (TCM). There are seven wires in the range switch connector on a 2000 Kia Sportage. Power is supplied to the switch from METER Fuse (10A) via a green/red wire. The remaining six wires correspond with each gear position; Park (P), Reverse (R), Neutral (N), Drive (D), 2nd (2), and Low (L). All of these gear position wires run to the TCM as well as the Instrument Cluster. The wire colors are as follows; P = blue/green, R = green, N = blue, D = blue/white, 2 - blue/white, and L = white/red. Fix the sensor or take it to a garage and have them fix it and clear codes and then retest

2000 Kia Sportage won't start

My guess would be something has happened to the fuel pump in the tank. I would make sure the pump has voltage when cranking the engine to verify.

Symptoms 2000 kia sportage Symptoms 2000 kia sportage does not do all the time. Starts runs well but driving road 50mph almost as if ignition shut off split 2nd. Stop car and while running in drive s

Some makers used Vacuum releases for their emergency brakes which had a Vacuum switch connected to the shift assembly. This would account for a stumble if Vacuum vented out through this switch.

More common for shifting stumble to occur from Park to Drive, engaging a load on the engine, not to stumble to a freewheeling Park position. Sounds like idle speed control is sluggish to stabilize the motor.

You also have idle speed control problem with A/C, kind of shows that A/C was what kept the engine running because when you turned the A/C off, the car died.

I am going to give you some Websites for wiring diagrams. Alldatadiy.com amd Autozone.com with free wiring info upon registering your vehicle.

It seems that the base Idle speed control is not working and the A/C idle speed control is.

Also check for Vacuum leaks on the intake manifold by spraying water from a pumpbottle on the seams of the gaskets.

Check ignition Relay or ignition switch for random cutouts. The fusebox layout is on the Autozone site.

I hope my solution helps.

2001 kia sportage . transmission does not change

Popular Problems Checks
1. Car will not go into gear:
  • Gear selector cable has failed
  • Brake lock solenoid/brake light swtich has failed not allowing the gear selector to move out of "Park"
  • Excessively low transmission fluid (note: if car is operated for an extended amount of time with low fluid level the transmission will fail prematurely)
  • Shorted electrical component not allowing the PCM to control the transmission. Example: shorted fuse
  • Flex plate (flywheel) is broken completely not transferring engine power to the transmission.
2. Car goes into gear but then fades out of gear or is slipping while driving:
  • Transmission fluid is low
  • Transmission clutch discs or bands are worn out or burned
  • Faulty transmission shift solenoid.
3. Car goes into gear but does not shift out of first:
  • Blown fuse to the PCM controller
  • Faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
  • Shorted second gear control solenoid
  • Faulty transmission controller (PCM)

I just replaced all the belts on my 2000 Kia

The last shift is not a real gear shift, it is called "torque converter". The high rpms happens because the transm. goes to neutral. Get it to a transm. shop to be tested
