Why doesnt my car go in reverse the reverse lights go on and it kicks but no movement

if you have an automatic gear box , then it is very possible that you have reverse band is broken inside gear box , , light will come on because switch for reverse lights may be actuated by shift lever not gears .

there is a foward band and reverse band in auto gerabox's so if you are able to drive forward this gearbox will need to be repaired or replaced .

if manual gearbox , you may find a reverse linkage loose , or gears dammaged in gear box .
good luck hope this helps

sounds like its stuck in second gear. you have an electrical issue and need to track down a wiring diagram and find your short. this is telling you the shift solenoids are constantly engaged and not allowing to shift. it would be my guess that when the transmission was installed a wire was pinched. inspect the housing where it mates to the engine and make sure there is nothing pinched. i actually have experience with these from being in iraq. good luck.

Safety in operating an automatic vehicle.

Hi Anthony
The noise you heard was probably the park locking mechanism trying to engage on the notches in the transmission gear train. If the car holds itself in P range there is no need to worry. These things can happen and normally manufacturers are aware of this and safety devices are already in place to limit damage or injury.e.g the parking mechanism is a small pin that will eventually break first withi=out causing the gear train to lock.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers.
