check clutch hydrolics to make sure fluid is not low. Try double clutching. When in neutral, push clutch in, then out and in again and try shifting into low.

I have a 1988 ford f150 straight 6 with a 5 speed manual transmission my problem is about a week ago I nnotice the tranny starting to slip i checked the hydrolic fluid and it was topped up the next day my...

You have a lot of stuff going on.
1. Last question first. Low oil in a manual transmission will NOT cause it to slip. OK
2. A bad or failing clutch actuator, commonly called the slave cylinder, isn't going to cause the clutch to slip either; it works the other way around, it work make the clutch not able to disengage. (But if you are going to do the full clutch replacement, go ahead and replace/rebuilt it too along with the master)
3. You can not tell if a clutch is OK or going bad by looking through any "inspection window." From what you describe you need a new clutch and related parts. Don't forget to machine the flywheel and replace the pilot bushing/bearing.
4. Since you have to remove the starter in any event, don't buy a new one until you have had it tested. Your problem sound like it might be a worn ring gear on the flywheel. (The having to shake the truck part)
5. It usually doesn't pay to just replace the starter solenoid.
Alright you got five answers out of me. I expect you to post a comment back to this page after you get the truck fixed and tell me where I guess right or got it wrong.

When you press on the pedel is there preasure resisting movement? Is it easiser to push than last week? if it is - You probably have a hydrolic clutch is the resivor full of fluid? It will use brake fluid. Fill it and then slowly depress and release the pedal about ten times, then check the fluid again. If it still has fluid add as needed and repeat. Most of hydrolic clutches are self bleeding and thirty cycles should bring the preassure back. If the cylinder is empty the second time quit you have either a bad slave cylinder or line in yhe system take it to a mechanic.

I hav a 1984 porsche 944 n the clutch petal is on the floor what am i lookin for that would cause this to happen is it a clutch cable set up or is it a hydrolic set up ???

hello there
first thing you check you brake fluid level if is too low that would create air in the system .
It is part of brake fluid reservoir
when you fill it you need to bleed the system at the sleve cyllinder which operates the clutch arm .
it is by the transmission

Clutch bites very low sometimes difficult to change gear with foot right down only just disengages

without knowing what your vehical is i will give you 2 solutions, First, If its a hydrolic system? Look to see if there is fluid in resivour if not fill it and try again you may have to bleed the system, Look for leaks. If thats not your system? Replace the clutch. Its worn out
