Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

2004 Jetta Stalls out

I have a 2004 2.0 Manual 2004 Jetta. It recently started giving me problems. I live in a desert, so I assumed it was because of the heat. It seems it stalls out on me during the day after driving the car around awhile, until recently I took someone to the airport in the evening after letting the car sit all day, it stalled out on me, again. So maybe it is not the heat. Whatever the case may be, this is frustrating and I have had a mechanic working on it, which is not free. I need to know why my vehicle keeps stalling out on me. It stalls out when I go after sitting at a stop light, it will stall out when I push the gas pedal or refuse to go, causing traffic to stop behind me. In a hot town like this, there is a lot of road rage. This problem scares me, and I can't just get a new car. I need answers. I have fixed the fuel filter, a few sensors, one of which was 225 bux! We have given it a tune-up. The fuel pump was tested, and they said it was still good.

When the fuel pump was checked did they check the gauze input filter that is part of the fuel pump inside the fuel tank ?
It could be that you have picked up a batch of dirty fuel that has clogged the this filter and that is causing fuel starvation making the engine cut out.

I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus (4cyl) that idles rough (almost stalls out), dies on start up and recently had a flashing engine light (backfire error). Any suggestions? No other issues, water pump and timing...

Could be the idle air control, once these start hanging up inside, they can cause as variety of problems with idle speed (can become wildly random) or simply a failure to idle at all.

These links should help:
Where is the idle air control valve located on 2004 Dodge Stratus

2004 stratus idle air control Bing

This could also be caused by a failing ignition pack.

I give the same answer to everyone with these symptoms. Have your battery checked for specific gravity and load test. When weather starts to get cold this is a common problem. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Stalled 2004

If you've replaced the MAF sensor recently (I assume you've checked part numbers match with your old one?) disconnect the plug and ensure the contacts are clean and no debris has found its way in.

I had the same problem when I first got it.  I realized that the problem was the CD I was putting in.  The CD player will NOT read burned RW CDs.  I hope that helps!  But it will read burned R CDs and ones from the store.
