If it idles smoothly. I might suspect the fuel filter. Spark plugs are also likely, but I would think you would see a misfire (blinking) CEL light if the plugs were causing misfires. Check that the air filter is clean and that there are no air leaks (cracked or ripped hoses) on the intake side. If you have any CEL codes, please post them.
I'd change the plugs, wires and the ignition coil if you can see cracks. They are enclosed in oil so you may see oil as well but engine may be oily all over. If all of that is original then replace those three thing. Cost maybe $150 if you do it yourself.
You will need to replace the control arm with the ball joint since it is not sold separately. If one is found it will be a foreign made piece of junk and not worth using. They are weak and break
