It is located in the sump pan. Oil temp senders usually go into the sump in a special boss welded on the oilpan. Pressure senders can be T'ed in to the connection for the oilpressure warning light sender.

Oil pressure light on in my range rover

I would have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.
The gauge is inserted into the hole where the electric switch goes for the warning light.
The switch could be faulty, or you could be loosing oil pressure once the engine warms up.

Hi. I have a 1996 4.6 Range Rover. Oil pressure light comes on at idle plus bearing rattle. Some one told me that the block could be cracked under the valley cover letting oil escape. I was told this is a...

Hey Peter,
You are correct, the cracking of the oil gallery in the block is an ongoing issue and to be honest, there is no easy fix..
However, this could also be due to faulty or incorrectly adjusted oil pressure regulator (which is inside the sump) or a worn oil pump, or worn engine to have a mechanic check the actual oil pressure for you. He will remove the pressure switch and fit a pressure gauge so that the actual pressure can be checked.
If this shows low oil pressure then all you can do is pull the engine down and have the block pressure checked to locate the point of the leak. You can also check the oil pump and the vanes inside for wear..
Having the block welded will only result in the crack appearing next to the weld.
Sorry but it is a design fault with these engines..
Dave.

Sounds like something is overheating then and possibly a sensor. Not familiar with Rovers but might be a problem with the CAS and/or CPS which tells the ECU the motor is running and when to fire. Also maybe the IAC is bad and when you go from throttle to idle it can't control it and allows it to die.

check next to your oil filter. be sure to apply a light coat of black silicone or teflon tape(without getting ANY near the pressure hole)on the threads of the sensor to aide in sealing.

Have you pressure tested the system? Read your manual, most likely cause is air trapped in the system.

I am not sure in all Range Rovers released. The fuel pump is in the tank and it is mounted via a hole on the top.
