Question about 1996 Lincoln Town Car
Does this last for a long period of time? or is it for a short time, feeling as if the car wants to kind of 'jump' forward? Does seem to occur when the A/C is in operation? During the normal operation of an A/C system, once the interior reaches the requested temperature, the system maintains this temp by alternately turning off/on/off/on the A/C compressor as needed to keep the interior at temperature. A/C compressors cause heavy load on the engine. The modern cars fuel injection systems compensate for this load by raising the idle speed when the compressor kicks in and lowering it back down when the compressor cycles off. This cycling is happening all the time, but can only be noticeable at idling, say in traffic or at a long stop light. Often, due to the time delay between when the Compressor turning off (load on engine being relieved) and the computer adjusting the idle seed down due to this load loss, the car can feel momentarily like it wants to surge forward. I have had many cars in recent years that do this. On small engines, it's even more noticeable. This is normal. I hope this answers your concern. Note; as a car ages, this process can take a microsecond or two longer to occur due to, like people, sometimes older electronic and mechanical components do not work as fast as they used to. I hope this helps you .
