SOURCE: I replaced both front wheel
It sounds very much like whatever happened, however it happened, your brakes are always on.Troubleshooting ABS at home is very tedious and time consuming.Your best bet would be to get a computer analysis as it would take easily 5 hours to go through the process at home what the computer does in less than 5 minutes. The car wanting to stall is a very good indicator that your brakes are practically locked on since you have the relevant lights on also.Did you unplug any connectors? If not,you should try to avoid driving this car around until it is fixed. If it hasn't happened long, you can probably save your brakes. One I answeredearlier was way too late for them. They said that their gas consumption has gone way up along with other signs. They definitely need brake pads, rotors, and discs and brakes are probably glazed over.Slow acceleration. If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.Greg

SOURCE: BMW x5 warning light fiasco
Hello This is Mike,,
Sometimes.... Sometimes this will take care of some of those faults and codes, and it only takes a few minutes to do. I know your problem is not exact as this reset method says, but however you would be amazed on this fixes a lot of things, it like a cheap way to reset computer and fixes a lot of things back to default mode. Try it and let me know. Mike
IT'S VERY EASY TO RESET THE TRANSMISSION'S COMPUTER. HOLD GAS PEDAL DOWN. TURN THE KEY TO THE NUMBER TWO. CONTINUE TO HOLD THE GAS PEDAL DOWN FOR THIRTY SECONDS.RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL AND PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR TEN SECONDS. NOW YOU CAN TURN THE VEHICLE ON. THAT SHOULD TAKE IT OUT OF SAFE MODE

You would need to check the computer for trouble codes, fix the problem, then erase the codes. If the codes do not return, the warning light should stay off.

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and make sure its full. They usally have a sensor to let you know when the fluid is to low.
