We live in Southern CA and use it all of the time in the summer, but the car is driven around town for errands and the occasional trip out of town, 61k and have owned since Dec of 03. Just went out to try and did not hear the a/c comp engage this time. We replaced (cheap enough) the 2 7.5 amp fuses in the driver side fuse panel and the 40 amp under the hood. Have had absolutely nothing wrong with this car since purchased. Do have extended warranty coverage, but our luck would not be covered. Appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

If the blower works but its just not blowing cold air, its possible to recharge the AC system yourself. Most auto parts stores carry AC recharge kits. Instructions to recharge the AC are belowl

RECHARGING AC SYSTEM

1.Turn the truck on and turn AC on HIGH
2.Locate the low side AC line (will have a valve and cap similar to the cap on a tire)
3.Insert the oil or R-134A can to the hose (Do not turn the screw to puncture the can yet)
4.Insert the other end of the refill hose to the low side valve
5.Puncture the R-134A can with the screw on the refill hose
6.You should feel the system suction the refrigerant out of the can
7.Check for frost on the AC lines and the air blowing inside the truck
8.If frost develops and the air is cold, you've successfully recharged the system and disconnect the refill hose. DO NOT ADD MORE REFRIGERANT...overcharging the system will damage your compressor and will be less effective

Best of luck and enjoy your vacation.
Greg

Hopefully this answers your question and you're able to get your AC working again. Best of luck.

As an aside: the recharge kit can be had with a pressure gauge for a few dollars more and comes with adequate instructions on what the appropriate pressures are. Works like a charm even for casual 'experts' like me (and you.)

That usually means a bad Blower Motor resister which is located in the blower housing, next to the blower motor under the dash on the passenger side..

Blower motor resistors are super common failures in these. The connector for it can also get melted.

Fan will not turn on at all for heater or air conditioner no heat or cold air comes into car. was working then just stopped.

check the fuses with a test light,if its good then check the blower motor itself as you didn`t say it only worked on one or two speeds it just stopped.this sounds like the fuse or motor.

A/C blower has stopped. Still has cool air coming out of the vents when I accelerate. What should I check for first? Sometimes I hear a sound that might be from the vaccum.

CHECK HVAC FUSE OR BLOWER MOTOR RELAY/FUSE.IF BOTH GOOD BLOWER MOTOR BAD OR CONTROL SWITCH GOING BAD.IF YOU HAVE TO REMOVE BLOWER MOTOR HOTWIRE TEST IT BEFORE BUYING ANOTHER ONE.BE SURE TO DISARM AIR BAGS SYSTEM WHEN WORKING AROUND DASH OR STEERING AREA.REMOVE AIR BAG FUSES TO DISARM.WAIT 10 MINUTES.WHEN YOU GET READY TO ARM AIR BAG PLACE FUSE IN.TURN ON IGNITION THE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL FLASH 7 TIMES THEN TURN OFF.

The heater and air conditioner will not blow out any air

if the air started to work only on a few settings then the problem is your blower motor resistor if it just stopped all of a sudden then the blower motor is bad but the first thing i would check is the fuse. always check fuses first if you find a bad fuse for it and it pops rite after you put it in and turn the heater on then replace the blower motor

2004 Dodge Stratus AC and Heater Problem

The area where you "hit" to make the unit go is your neighborhood for investigation.

Something is loose or not making a good connection.

If you discover that there are no loosenesses, sometimes a blower motor can get a dead spot, but typically, once going, the motor would not stop, with that condition.

I am sorry no one took the time to respond to this. I hope by now your family is back home and doing fine. Your Volvo needs a new blower regulator. This is a common problem with the newer Volvos.
