2005 chevy cavalier I just changed the fuel pressure regulator because my car didn't want to start & black smoke was coming out of exhaust & gas was in the pipe leading to the filter so my car...

I would replace any faulty hose to a regulator for a start. I would say that the injectors are under full fuel pressure and the cpu is having regulating the required amount of fuel which is what all your problems amount to. Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as non-genuine
replacement are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units.

I replaced the fuel pump and it died on the way home so i replaced the fuel filter and it is still dying

Check the pressure at the fuel rail in the engine compartment. If it is low possibly the fuel regulator is stuck (bypassing). I have put on new fuel pumps that didn't last very long. It is best to put on a Delco pump the aftermarkets are junk.

I have the door panel off and the cable attachin to window guide is off...both cables...

Hi Robert,

What you have is a broken window regulator. This is very common. If the cables are off, it is because the plastic guides on the window regulator have broken. The only way to fix it is to replace the regulator assembly. It is kind-of a waste, because your motor is probably working. The window regulator will come with a new motor. You can buy a motor without buying the regulator, but you cannot buy the regulator without the motor.

You didn't mention what year and model your Buick is, so I cannot give you any specific information. However, your regulator assembly should look like one of the regulators pictured below. Both of these are available at most aftermarket auto parts outlets.

The entire assembly is pretty easy to change. The hard part is getting the door panel off...you said you have already done that, so it is downhill from there. Everything should be held together with several 10mm head bolts (usually 7 or 8 of them) and one electrical connector.

I hope this information helps you to get your window fixed. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank You for your patronage,

- Dave (dttech)

I have a 2000 Chevy blazer and i am replacing the the windoe motor /regulator , I have the door panel off and have drilled out the rivets but cannot get the unit out of the door. How do i get the siss

have you unbolted the guides? it helps i took mine apart ..and I had to find patience..as I didn't have any by the time I had gotten as far as you have.....but I disconnected the window motor, took the rivets out, pulled the guides out so that I could get the entire regulator out. then you disconnect (get the little rollers off of the window guides) and push window up and take regulator out

My 1987 Dodge Ramcharger seems to have a dead short. Keeps burning out the tail lights, has burned out coil and ignition in the past several times, window units don't work now but didn't work on...

A short won't cause such things. I would bet your alternator/regulator is putting out too much voltage.. It should be no more than 14.8 volts MAX and more like 13.x . Check the voltage while the engine is running at least 2000 rpms.

Idles ,then revs up by its self then drops back puffs black smoke

intermittent rich condition can be caused by torn fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. I didn't get your model, but regulator is usually on the fuel rail. Pull off the vacuum hose and plug it with a golf tee. Start car and check open vacuum port on regulator for gas coming out. If any gas comes out, replace regulator. If not this, please get back to me with year, model, and engine info for additional ideas.
