Hello, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. As for your questions, I've never owned a 4-wheel drive vehicle before so I'm not exactly sure what to call it. It's the U-joint between the front brake caliper and the axle. And what I really need is the procedure on how to replace it and the torque specs if possible. Thanks in advance for your time.

I need clarification. My reasoning is that you have referred to a 'front U-joint', for an axle half shaft. Axle half shafts go in a side to side position in your truck, therefore there is no 'front'. It could be a reference to the front half shafts, this I understand. The front U-joint, is the first U-joint that is behind the transmission. The 'CV joint' in the half shafts, that is right next to the differential, is referred to as an Inner Tripod Joint. I put marks on 'CV joint, because the Inner Tripod joint is not a Constant Velocity joint. The joint to the outside of the half shaft, (Located close to the wheels), IS a Constant Velocity joint. If this is a reference to a half shaft, know that if one joint is bad, the other is sure to follow. It isn't that much more cost of replacing the half shaft as a unit, than buying both joints.

How to change front u-joints on a 2001 ram 1500 4x4.

That model does not have U-joints, it uses constant velocity (CV) joints. It is much easier, and usually just as cost effective, to replace the half shafts (front axles that go from the differential to the wheels). Most parts stores don't even sell the CV units separately, and they are a lot more work to change.

Was told drive shaft was worn out needs rebuilt or new any 1 here of this

Rebuilding them consists of new U joints and maybe balanced. If it was so loose the the u joints wallowed out the keepers, Then yes, they would also need replaced. Cut off and welded on. That isn't a common problem, but I have had to replace a few. Not just on jeeps.

I'm hearing a clicking noise from front passenger tire when I turn

probably a bad passenger CV joint on the axle. You can purchase a completely rebuilt half shaft cheaper than you can replace one CV joint.

Universal joint

On a 2004 Intrepid it does not have Universal Joints, you will have Constant Velocity Joints. If you have one that is rough and noisy it will either need to be rebuilt or replaced. It is usually cheaper to replace the whole half shaft assembly that is it to rebuild one CV joint, this is also much easier as the whole axle is fully assembled. You just have to pop out your worn out pieces and install new axle.

Axle will not come out of the axle housing

I quote from service manual

1 . Raise and support the truck. Remove the rear wheels, the brake drum or brake caliper and rotor. If this is a disc brake, support caliper with wire. Remove seal retainer nuts from axle
housing.

2 . Pull out the axle shaft from housing. Remove the snap ring and bearing race from the axle shaft. Cut the bearing retainer. Break the bearing cage using a hammer and chisel and remove cage and rollers.

3 . Remove the oil seal, the seal retainer and the parking brake assembly (rear). Using a hydraulic press and bearing splitter, press the inner race from axle shaft. Inspect axle shaft for seal wear. Ensure that the shaft is not bent.

I have a 2004 dodge ram 2500 4x4 . the front drive shaft has a ball kit in it . how do i replace this and how does it work?

If it is the tipical cvshaft you must replace the whole shaft if you have the old style straight axle you have to take the four wheel assembly apart remove the rotor assembly this means that in some Dodges you have to have the bearing unpressed and a new bearing installed when you change the universal joint in the wheel shaft good luck these are tuff to do

Replacing front drive axle universal joints.

remove front wheel brakes, rotors, axle nut, remove the four bolts on the bake side of your unit bearing using one of the 4 bolts removed from the unit bearing (also knowin as wheel bearing) go get a half dozen of the same bolt only 1 to 2 inchs longer theard them into the unit bearing from the back side and start beating. the unit bearing is a sob to get out but will come out with time once you get it out pull out your axle shaft replace the ujoint and reassemble anti seize everything as you re assemble it

Remove front axle from differential on 2003 dodge ram

That works fine on a relatively new vehicle but one that has run in salt etc you'll save a lot of time if you remove the steering knuckle completey by separating lower ball joint and outer tie rod end ball joint and bring the whole steering knuckle to a bench to separate the hub/bearing. Soak everything with penetrant, loosen the bolts a few turns and try hitting right on the bolt heads. I also made a very sharp wedge from a chisel and rammed it hard on the other side to seoarate the hub. It will finally come apart then you'll see all the **** that was binding it due to an alumininum knuckle re-acting with a steel hub. Clean the hole and grease everything and fit new bearings
