SOURCE: 2006 frontier camshaft position sensor

If you do not know where the Camshaft Position Sensor is located, then it would be safe to assume that you have not properly tested the sensor or the circuits that operate the sensor. Therefore, you cannot possibly know for sure that it even NEEDS to be replaced...so why are you looking to replace it?

According to the error code list (see the link below) it is an over advanced cam shaft timing. It well may be a mechanical fault as opposed to an electrical fault. Read about it here:

Code p0011 2006 chevy impala: camshaft position actuator

You can read all about your code here:
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0011

Most likely a P0011 DTC will result in one of the following: hard starting, poor idle, and/or stalling. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) illuminates.

How to replace the camshaft position actuator on 2006 impala 3.9l

Hey my 06 impala with the 3.5 starts right up and runs fine until it gets warm then all of a sudden it runs so rough it stalls at stop signs and will not start back up for at least 2 or 3 mins. The last time this happened I heard squealing and the squeal was in sync with the rotation of the motor. It matched rpm. Ok, I replaced coolant sensor, crankshaft sensor, cam shaft sensor, cleaned throttle body, used sea foam, and also replaced vvt actuator plug wires due to the bare metal showing. I need help guys. I’m leaning towards the camshaft actuator but have no clue where it’s at. Is it the same as vvt?

Where is the camshaft position sensor located on a 2006 impala ss

If you have the SS remove the fues panel cover and take the two nuts off at the top of the pannle lift it up and look under it you will see the thin wiring harness running down between the strut tower and the behind the serpentine belt follow it down to a plug-in lift to unplug the clip and you will find the cam position sensor there is one 8mm screw holding in place. Remove that screw wiggle the cam position sensor left and right and it will pull out replace it with a new one and reverse the procedure. The car will crank but not start if this part is bad.

The engine light means you have a code stored that can be read.
A place like Autozone will read it for free.
Only with the code can we tell if it is serious or minor.
