Pinking (pinging) problem. Symptoms: Part load, around 2-3k RPM, increase throttle and pinking, left bank only (wind windows down and clearly left bank). Took to main dealer, chains, compression and plugs checked, all OK. Replaced two injectors, performance much better, like a new car, but pinking still there, but much reduced - should knock sensors detect this and ****** ignition? If knock sensor faulty - why wouldn't this trigger a fault code? No fault codes found by dealer. Any pointers gratefully received, the technician at the dealer was helpful and knowledgeable, but has clearly run out of ideas...
If your getting misfire codes also and all on one side then it is oxygen sensor and or the catalytic converter on that sideIf your getting misfire codes also and all on one side then it is oxygen sensor and or the catalytic converter on that side

Joe, Did you try using premium gas, run about 3 tankfuls to see if ping goes away or lessens.
Could be something worn in Distributor not allowing correct timing.

you have a scan tool and used it? (shoe drops)
pinking= pinging=knocking = detonation. sure.
sure , pinging is cause by 2 things, lean AFR, and wrong spark timing. (as a turbo designer that) lol
why not use a real scan tool , they are cheap.
why not?
and report all DTC dont tell me what they mean, tell me the codes.
P0300s? etc.
the knock sensor may be bad (wires fell of it? is 90%)
the AFR stuck lean.
the spark timing way off, (check it yet?)
you cant fix 2005 cars with no scan tool
its not going to happen. short of 2 days, with a meter and scope
yes, i can , no im not teaching you here, that. sorry!
Yes that is normal. The ECM has no reason to let the engine rev higher than 3000 RPM when in Park, so it starts randomly cutting spark to different cylinders. That is why it shudders.
The pinking is due to either lean burn, high temperatures or overly advanced timing.
If the mass air sensor is dirty then it may underestimate the volume of air entering the engine and therefore call on shorter injection cycles meaning less fuel = lean mix
A faulty or slightly under-performing exhaust gas recirculation system would reduce the amount of inert exhaust gas from entering the combustion process and this will cause a high temperature lean burn situation.
An under-performing crank sensor may yield erroneous timing signals to the ECU giving rise to an excessively advanced ignition causing the pinking.
There may be error codes logged by the ECU which would help in the diagnosis.
Thes is called a spark ping because of burning a lower octane of gas. I would try a higher octane and also injection cleaner. Hope this fixes your problem.
It's called pinking, and is a sign of either dirty spark plugs, failing plug leads or plugs, wrong fuel mixture settings, wrong grade of fuel, or timing out. Or any combination. Check these and replace as needed.
If you have pinging it could be because the Octane in the fuel is too low. If you have run a full tank of high octane fuel through it and it hasn't made any difference, it could be that the plugs need to be changed, it could also be that the timing might have jumped a tooth or if you have a VVT engine the VVT solenoid or gear maybe going bad.
