Question about Honda CR-V

6 Answers

Looking for the audio wiring diagram for a Honda CR-V 2009 EX-L (Canadian model, no XM) with OEM subwoofer. I need to know the connector pinout, wire colors and fuctions so that I can install a Kenwood radio in place of the factory radio.

    Hi,

    I am looking for a diagram/drawing that shows the the 4 connectors that connect at the back of the factory radio that shows pin number, wires color and the pin functions (for the Honda CR-V EX-L 2009 Canadian model). Do you have that?

    Hi,

    I'm not sure I follow you.

    "click on wiring" Well there is no wiring link unless you mean "wire and cable" or "wire harness".

    When I chose my model and year I am being offered harness with info about other Honda car old CIVIC model with wire color that do not relate to my model. I already have an harness, I wnat the info I am looking for, that's all.

    Hi,

    well I will modify my question:

    All I need is to know is:

    On which connector, on what pins and the wires color of the the sunwoofer (+) and (-) on a Honda CR-V EX-L 2009 Canadian model.

    Thanks.

  • Airborne951 Aug 01, 2009

    Dealership was not much help. I went to my car radio installer today to have my Kenwood DNX6140 installed and even he could not figure it out.

  • Airborne951 Aug 01, 2009

    There is not amplifier (as fat as I know) on the EX-L, there is one on the EX-L with navigation.

  • Airborne951 Aug 01, 2009

    "if you have a subwoofer - there is an external amplifier.
    do you have the 2.4L engine 6 speaker system (in this case the rear "subwoofer" is simply another 6.5" speaker."

    Hi, yes I do have the 2.4L with 6 speakers (2 of them being tweeters). The radio was installed by an independant shop (model Kenwood DNX6140). I guess they did not want to go with the trouble of finding where the wires of the sub is located. I am using a Metra harness for the 17 pins connector and Metra harness for the antenna. No harness for the 20 pins connector. With stock radio, I could control the sub level. with the new one, the sub has to be connected to the RCA connector in order for the sub to be controlled. My guess is that the sub - and + is on the 20 pins connecotor. So I need to know where. I disconnected the sub and could not see a difference when music was playing. Also, I was wondering if there was another solution for steering wheel control beside the PAC SWI-JACK (I find that the control have a delay when using them).

    Thanks.

  • Airborne951 Aug 02, 2009

    Hi,

    sounds good, I just wanted to make sure because I found something on the Internet (that I just could not verify): So you say :

    20 pins connector:

    Pin A5 Pink wire SW +

    Pin A15 LT Blue wire SW -

    That way, and not the opposite (Pink wire SW - and LT Blue wire SW +).

    I'm not arguying, I justr want to confirm.

    Thanks.

  • Airborne951 Aug 02, 2009

    Hi,

    after double checking, you are right about the polarity, the info I had found confirm this. I will accept your answer. Just to conclude, on that same connector (20 pins connector) pins 16 is for AMP ON for my model car (EX-L). Do you think it is possible that this pin provide power to the sub and than pin 5 and 15 provide line level to the sub?

    Thanks.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Might be different with Asian versions, but check A5 pink wire for subwoofer + & A15 blue wire for subwoofer - on the 20 pin connector.

Sorry, no joy on alternate to the PAC SWI-JACK and the lag.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

    Appreciate the postback and yes on A5 pink SW+ & A15 blue SW-.  Still, you may want to consider:

    • electrically, even if the + & - of the subwoofer wires were reversed, if would not cause any electrical fault;

    • acoustically however, if the wires were reversed, the subwoofer would be negating the low frequency reproduction of the other speakers hence the result would be lower bass (rather than improve/boost);

    • the possibility of polarity reversal is addressed in some add-on subwoofer amps by incorporating a phase control; 0 ~ 180 degrees;

    • there are some installers who still uses old tricks such as touching all speaker wires (pair by pair) to a single 1.5 AA battery to determine if the speaker cone moves in or out and establish that all follow the same movement and mark which is the true + & -;

    • incidentally, the Rear Preout/Subwoofer Preout of the Kenwood DNX6140 is line level, it is intended to drive a sub amp and not to be wired directly to a speaker.

  • Louie  Role
    Louie Role Aug 03, 2009

    On your query:

    • pin 16 of the 20 pin connector - I beg to differ, why would this even be used? The Kenwood has its own blue/white wire to provide the triggering / remote turn on (P CONT) of the sub amp. Of course the main power of the amp should be wired directly to the battery;

    • pins 5 and 15 provide line level to the sub - they can be used but there would be a lot of electrical noise piggyriding on the audio signals to the sub amp since these are not sufficiecntly shielded. In all installations, line level signal uses shielded wires not plain wires hence some even uses monster cables and plated RCA plugs. Based on this, using pins 5 & 15 is not recommended as line level signal pathways.

    There are 3 possible installation scenarios:

    1. sub amp installed under the dash / passenger seat - blue/white wire directly to the AMP ON terminal of the sub amp, pink & blue wires for the subwoofer speaker wires, only the subwoofer is installed at the rear;

    2. sub amp and subwoofer installed at the rear - presumably, red & black heavy gauge wires would be laid out from the battery to the amp. Include 1 smaller wire for the AMP turn on to be connected to the blue/white wire of the Kenwood plus a single run of shielded wire/cable for the line level signal from the Subwoofer Preout of the Kenwood to the LINE IN of the sub amp.  The pink & blue wires would not be used;

    3. sub amp and subwoofer installed at the rear -  a variation of # 2 above but the sub amp used would be getting its feed / input from the speaker wires of the rear speaker.  There are models of sub amps that are capable of accepting either line level or high (speaker) level. This variation still requires the heavy gauge + & - power wires plus an AMP ON wire but no shielded wire.
    Looking forward to your updates.

The parts department of your local honda dealer can provide you with a free printout.
The information is too new for repair manuals.

Thanks

    You will not find the subwoofer wires behind the radio.
    the signal is split and amplified through an external amplifier.

    are you trying to add an aftermarket amplifier/subwoofer? or disconnect the subwoofer?

    if you have a subwoofer - there is an external amplifier.
    do you have the 2.4L engine 6 speaker system (in this case the rear "subwoofer" is simply another 6.5" speaker.

    The 7 speaker system has nav, seperate tweeters, and "subwoofer"

    It is a pretty straightforward install either way.
    Is this an independent shop? Or a big chain store??

    There are simple techniques we use to determine the wire layout of cars - as well an many manufacturer websites that offer "dealer" areas with information not available to the general public.

    what are you trying to do??? just install the radio?

    This is the wiring harness you will require : QCHON-2

    And here is the antenna adapter

    sorry - this is the plug 70-1722

    (used for 2009 CRV too)

    To check the "subwoofer" you can (or he can) remove it from the mount and look at the wires. It is the same on either end.

    Good Luck!!

You do not need any wiring diagram for that,you get a multi meter and then you can start testing them..You have to make sure the live wire and permanent live wire goes into the unit.The rest of the speaker can be done by using fader and balance,test & cross check until you get the right speaker on.Make sure wiring connection are good,that is +ve got to +ve on the speakers else it will affect your bass and sound.Hopes this helps..Just use your brain and a meter and you should get it sorted..

How to install a subwoofer and amplifier

When installing any electrical components always remember to unhook the battery. First thing you want to do is run your ground cable from a volt meter to a body or frame nut or bolt near by in the trunk or hatch area a shorter thicker ground is best then connect the other end of your volt meter to your battery cable that will need to be run through the firewall and connect to the positive battery terminal. Also VERY important make sure you have installed a fuse on the wire in between the amp and the battery. after you have connected the battery cable and ground to your meter it will light up or give you the correct reading for your ground, if not run the ground somewhere else until you have found the right spot. pull out your stereo, for stereos that are made to be compatible with an amp there will be multiple rca jacks in the back of the stereo. For a sub woofer you want to hook the rca cable to the rear or sub labeled rca jacks. Then run your amplifier remote wire to the remote wire protruding from the back of your car stereo. After that you can run the ground and battery cable to the correct slots. Now connect your sub via rca and your done. making it fit correctly is up to you. If you do not have an amp with a subwoofer out then you can take the wires from your sub and bridge the connection to your amp and get enough power, take the positive wire to your sub and hook it up to the positive terminal of channel one on the amp then take the negative wire from your sub and hook it into the negative terminal on channel two and your done.

2005 Honda CR-V won't go to XM radio.

"XM Ready" means that you have to have a satelite radio installed in order to have XM service. I went through this when buying my 2005 CR-V and thought that all I needed was to set up the service. If you have an XM receiver installed you can controll it on your Honda factory radio. It is very misleading.
