My 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan keeps over heating for no reason

Have you checked the electric fan/fans on the radiator? It may also pay to check the sender sensor which starts and stops the fan/fans.This may sound a bit silly but is the rad.cap correct pressure setting and is the pipe to the expansion tank clear?...Maybe of some help.

When should your radiator fan turn, And how can you tell if it is turning when its supposed to?

Close to 200 degrees F...
If you have two fans, both will come on with a/c turned on.
I use a live data scanner to read the temperature sensor. The fan usually kicks on at 200 or up, and off around 190. A bad temperature sensor can cause a problem, that's why the scanner is good to use.

Our 1999 dodge grand caravan radiator fans don't come on and our van overheats. we have to hot wire the fans directly to the battery. We also need to know where the relay is

it may be the temperature sensor that activates the fans is faulty & needs to be replaced or it could be a loose wire or connection check the wiring & connectors......hope this helps......cheers.

I took my 99 dodge grand caravan to advanced auto and got a computer readout of p1491 as the error code. is this important and is this expensive?

P1491 is Radiator Fan Control Relay Circuit. MEANING: An open or shorted condition detected in the low speed radiator fan control circuit.
Some questions for you:
1. Is your Caravan overheating?
2. Is your Caravan water temperature spiking going past the midway point on the Temp Gauge before the radiator is engaged?
3. Is your Rad Fan coming-on and then turning off and back-on in a very short period of time (like under a minute?
If all of these are "No" then do not worry about it.

The radiator fan is not working in my 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan...it´s 3.3l engine.

First is your engine getting up to temp? if not check for a stuck open thermostat. Second with engine up to temp (where fan kicks on) check for voltage at the fan, If 12vdc present replace fan, If 0vdc present check fuses and relays.
