SOURCE: DRIVE BELT ON 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY

If you are referring to the vehicle having a "Timing Belt", no, it does not have one.
The 2002 Camry 4 cylinder has a Timing CHAIN, and does not need to be replaced.

SOURCE: How to remove ignition cylinder from Toyota Camry 1993

Here are step-by-step instructions for the removal and re-installation of your ignition cylinder on your Toyota. Hope this sheds some light on the subject and solves your problem. Have a great day!

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before working on the vehicle.
CAUTIONSome models covered by this guidemay be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in .
  1. Remove the lower steering column cover. Unfasten the ignition switch connector under the instrument panel.
  2. Remove the screws which secure the upper and lower halves of the steering column cover.
  3. Turn the lock cylinder to the ACC position with the ignition key.
  4. Push the lock cylinder stop in with a small, round object (cotter pin, punch, etc.).
On some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the steering wheel and combination switch first.
  1. Withdraw the lock cylinder from the lock housing while depressing the stop tab.
  2. To remove the ignition switch, unfasten its securing screws and withdraw the switch from the lock housing.
To install:
  1. Align the locking cam with the hole in the ignition switch and insert the switch into the lock housing.
  2. Secure the switch with its screw(s).
  3. Make sure both the lock cylinder and column lock are in the ACC position. Slide the cylinder into the lock housing until the stop tab engages the hole in the lock.
  4. Install the steering column covers.
  5. Connect the ignition switch wiring.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

There is a pin that you have to push in on the bottom of the lock cylinder housing. It is recessed in a hole. You have to turn the key to acc or on to get it to push in.Once you push it in you can pull the key and lock cylinder out.

SOURCE: FACTORY ALARM CAMRY TOYOTA 2002 WENT OFF WHEN i WAS DRIVING

If your remote is attached to the key in the ignition, it could have been bumped setting off the alarm. It is also possible for the lock button to be depressed and lock the doors, if you do not notice this and get out of the car........!

I cannot start my car or get it out of park.

The mechanic should check on the ignition switch, ignition coil, distributor assembly , the spark plug, spark plug cable , the wires ,and the fuses, plus the starter solenoid . Because of it could be a electrical problem it will click when going to start but it will not start. There fore there is a problem in the electrical part of the car .these that have been mentioned if worn out or destroyed should be replace or repair. And also if the transmission shift lever is been stock it should also be checked .You should adjust the shift sleeve ,the shift fork may be these is the problem because of it is tightened.Don't forget to check the connection of the battery to the ignition system just to sure that there is no loose connection wires on the battery and also on the wire connection also look for a loose wire connection and reconnect.

On that engine the ecu reads the crank and cam sensor on startup to determine top dead center and controls the ignition timing and advance from there.. There is no distributor and no timing adjustment.

2001 Toyota Camry will not start after ignition change.

The locksmith may not have tightened the "electrical" part onto the new ignition lock. The electrical part (the ignition "switch", if you will, is actually the thing that sends power to the starter, via the action of the key. If it is loose, you will get the exact problem that you are describing. Drop the lower dash panel on the driver side and examine it (the round white thing with several wires coming from it), hooked to the BACK of the ignition cylinder. Check it out & get back to me.
