Engine in my 2004 Silverado stalled twice on the freeway, what could of been the problem. Also, the power steering went off too.

After the vehicle stalled the first time the battery warning light came on. The electrical system seems to be ok and the truck restarted just fine but stalled again after driving a couple more miles. My fuel filter was replaced two years ago and all I use is either Shell or Chevron gas. A brand new Optima battery was installed 6 months ago. My voltage reading at Idle fluctuates between 13.8 and 14.0 volts. Could this be a bad alternator?

I think my tie rods went bad on my 2004 cavalier the steering stopped all of a sudden no brakes hard to steer.is it the tie rods

Sounds like the car stalled while you were driving. That would cause the power steering to stop and make the steering hard and the engine vacuum to fall off and make the brakes very hard to apply. There is really no other scenario that would cause both systems to fail at the same time. And no, it is NOT the tie rods, regardless of what actually happened.

Hi, it sound like your engine is stalling, causing the battery light, steering, and brake issues. I would not be as concerned about these items, as I would the engine stalling. If you have an overall low idle condition, and the engine stalls as a result, I would clean the throttle body, as a carbon build up may be causing this. If the engine just stalls at will, you may have a faulty fuel pump, causing low, or no pressure. If this is a diesel, You should have a scanner put on, as it cuold be a number of things. Good luck...Coop

Power steering went out while driving and battery

If the belt gets wet and flies off, or starts to slip, the power steering and alternator will stop spinning causing this condition.

Check belts to see if they are still on the truck and spinning the pulleys of the alternator and power steering pump.

2004 chev silverado ext cab. No Power steering

Hi Hollings,

You description was very good, I need to ask for a specific.

When you turn to the left, the wheel is stiff like the engine is off or does it turn smoothly but the vehicle doesn't turn or seem to respond.

I'm trying to rule out broken mounts,

Also, if the wheel is all the way to the right, is it difficult turning back to the left the whole way, or half way. See where I'm going.?

Please comment back your findings

Best regards
Mike

Engine noise on area of pulleys and sometimes engine tries to sto

Don't know if this helps. Had squeel in belt area. Occasionally engine would stop when squeel got loud and sometimes engine would try to quit while going at various speeds. Found tensioner pulley was bad and changed it. Still squeeled and engine would stop when squeel got loud. This time while sitting in yard. Further checking found binding in power steering pump. Will be putting on new one tomorrow. Hope it works. Will update.
