Hi I'm litoshop before you replace the struts you should take your vehicle to a alignment shop that offers free front end check up and there you'll know how bad is your suspension always get more then one estimate because if you get different list then go to a third estimate to be sure your not getting mislead good luck. if this information has been helpful please let use know thank you

There are a few other things that could be wrong with it. Such as ball jionts, wheel bearings, and tie rod ends. although it is rare, it is not unheard of for bad struts to cause them to go bad. when you put them on go and have the van alligned. when they allign it they will tell you if any of the other parts are wore out or not.

I replaced the rear struts, when removing i discovered one was totally bad, they didn't seem bad from testing and recovered quickly when pushing on the bumper, but were bad. after replacing my rear tire wear is even after 5k miles. mine were wearing from inside to outside too.

Will bad front ball joints cause excess wear and tear on my front tires?

I vote yes. Any worn component of the front end be it ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, even tire balance will adversely affect tire wear.

We just bought a 2004 Toyota sienna XLE on 11/20. It seems to have a very bumpy ride especially on the interstate. I took it to the toyota dealer and was told the struts/shocks are fine. It just seems...

If it has the factory original struts, they probably need replacing. When driving over paved surfaces, the struts only move up and down a few inches. that causes the strut to wear out or become soft in that short travel area. What most people do when they check a strut or shock for wear is to bounce the vehicle up and down as hard as they can. This puts movement into an area of the strut that hasn't seen any wear, so it feels like it is in good shape. 77,000 miles is a lot for a strut or shock. I would have them replaced. Get a quality strut. Don't go for the economy strut. You will be disappointed in the ride quality. It would be a good idea to have the ball joints checked for wear. A little movement in worn ball joints can make for a very rough ride.

Besides a spring compressor, are there any specialty tools needed to replace struts for a 1991 toyota previa? Arepower tools necessary and how long should it take?

One item of advice. If it's not too much difference $ wise to buy complete "quick strut kit" which is the entire assembly already to go, then I'd do it.

Wheel bearings, front & rear struts

In my humble opinion, I would say this is not normal wear and tear. If it were me I would get a 2nd opinion. I have been driving for over 40 years and I do not remember the last time I had to replace a wheel bearing. I'm not saying it can't happen but another opinion would be worth the nominal cost.

And if the answer is a strong "it's not needed" I would find another mechanic than the one that gave you the estimate

Hope this helps Loringh
