Thanks for the solution. Yes, with more investigation, I found the bushing had deteriorated. My temp fix was to duc tape a piece of Al plate over the bushing hole- working so far.

Hi I'm litoshop your problem is not that hard to fix under the dash on your brake pedal you have a switch, that's your brake light switch it may need adjustment look under the dash some switch will adjust by screwing it in if yours don't have adjustment then you need to replace the switch good luck. if this information has been helpful please let us know thank you

Possibly a worn out rubber "bushing that actually depresses the switch when the pedal is all the way out. mine was deteriorated and fell apart leaving the hole where it was supposed to go and nothing for the switch to contact. i simply JB welded a penny in the place of the bushing and adjusted the switch!!! talk about a 1cent fix ha ha ha

the brake lights and rear lights will be on different circuits, the left and right sides should also be on different circuits. They should not stay on, and certainly not al together simultaneously. You need the services of a proficient auto electrician, not a mechanic though.
Good Luck

Why are 1994 pathfinder brake light, door ajar, check engine, and alternator lit?

when the battery is flat or removed from the engine then the CPU program can become corrupted . IT is always a good idea to use a scanner tool to reprogram the CPU properly to eliminate any faults that first show up before changing anything to the systems as this changes can create more problems than they solve especially if it was only a program problem to start with.

Brake lights on my 1997 odyssey remain on even after the ignition is turned off.

Look at the brake light switch for function and adjustment. Brake lights normally are not affected by ignition, so they can remain on with key out and that is okay.
