Question about Land Rover Range Rover

1 Answer

Bought car five days ago. when originally cranking rpm's would stay high and only go down once in gear. now when cranked rpm's are less than a thousand and oil light comes on and starts to run hot. while driving once you exceed one k rpm's oil light goes off and car will still get hot. however, if i go crank the car in driveway and let it idle, rpm's over one k the car will just sit there perfect with no problem.

you realize this is a 1998 range rover, right?

1998 range rover. rpm's where high when starting, then go down once in gear. couple of days later rpm's are below one thousand and oil sensor comes on and car runs hot. when rpm's exceed one k light goes off but will eventually get hot. or I crank and have more than one thousand rpm's and runs perfect and not hot and no lights?

if it was going out would it make a bit of a grinding noise when cranking? underneath your feet below pedals. kind of scratching when starting? Or is this unrelated

The grinding below your feet is the starter, the oil light will allways come on when the rpm's drop to low.
This sounds like a vacuum leak, clogge EGR, throttle position sensor,or incorrect timing.

what is the temp when you say it is overheating?

Engine stalls on Isuzu I-370 truck after warm up

The Cam sensor usually senses the position of the timing belt or timing chain gear and tells the computer when #1 cylinder is at top dead center. In other words, when #1 cylinder comes up. Crank sensor tells the computer when to fire the spark plugs in the rest of the cylinders. In other words, as the crank shaft goes around it tells the computer when each piston comes up so it can fire it's spark plug

so replace the crankshaft sensor

Van will not start when its cold. it cranks and cranks. once you do get it started it restarts fine. have checked spark and fuel all is good. changed air filter also. no lights come on

I saw something similar to this on a 1991 dodge van a few days ago.. turns out it was the battery. It was odd, because it cranked over fine and had spark and fuel, but would not start. If your battery is good, then confirm that your fuel pressure is ok
