Shifter on the steering well is sloppy and sometimes we're not going to park have to hold it up to start the vehicle hard to shift between gears Park Drive reverse etc.
SOURCE: won't go into any other gear, stays in park
This may sound stupid but did you put your foot on the brake when you try and shift--try that
SOURCE: Van won't lock into reverse or park all the time.
it is either the shifter or the cable, I would go with a broken part in the shifter linkage. Detrim the steering column and see what shows up, very easy just 4 screw I think.
SOURCE: Gear shifter sticking (auto) from Park to reverse and vice versa.
you need to have the shifting cable lubricated or replaced.
SOURCE: transmission won't come out of reverse
your Transmission is controlled by a cable on the mustang. it could have Came off of the transmission. it just snaps on to a lever on the transmission. or the cable broke. other wise it came unhooked from your shifter.

You'll need to get under the truck on the side of the trans (driver side) there will be an adjustment, looesen it move leveler all the way to park and tien nut.
