Question about Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

RPMs rev up while driving, mechaninc said the compression was not correct. Replaced fuel pump, filter, and throttle position sensor. It will run fine until it warms up, then the problems occur, will stall when stopped, but will restart. After it is warm it will act up, then run okay for a few miles. Any suggestions?

Replaced fuel pump because it was giving a false gas gauge reading once it begin acting up. The motor has less then 50,000 miles on it. Has never ran hot. I believe the mechanic was just grasping for straws when he stated that the compression was in correct. Just trying to verify, his diagnosis.
After it has been driven for 15-20 miles is when the problem will begin to occur, then it will run fine for a bit, if you get into city traffic, it will then stall, but start right up again, when you place it in drive it will usually stall 5-6 times before you will be able to drive on again.

Why would you replace the fuel pump and filter for a compression problem. You either have a bad cylinder head, or a bad motor. Those are the only 2 things that will give you low compression. If you are talking about the engine revving up while driving down the road, you have a transmission problem.

My 1989 ford f-350w/7.3 idi stops running while driving i replaced the fuel pump with elec. one new injector pump new injector lines return lines. new fuel lines from tank all the way

when this happens oes it start again then in a couple of minutes it dies again if so you either have a dead spot in your throttle position sensor which is worn section of contact inside the sensor from always being there in that position while driving or the idle air control vavle is no good and once the engine gets warm enough the valves internal contacts spread and break contact ex solder inside has corroded and a bad joint exist and when temperature increases metal expands and the electrical path can no longer arc because the gap is to big so it cuts out the best way to check is start the vehicle overnight cold if you can rev the engine multiple times then the throttle position sensor is good if not thats it try both in park and drive if you can constantly raise the rpms then your idle air contol is bad but the best way is to check the TPS with a meter across the contacts if voltage disappears then comes back the throttle position sensor is no good

My 1997 chevy s10 2 wheel drive will crank but won't rev up.

motors do not rev up because they are not getting correct air/fuel for the throttle opening. So check that the accelerator position sensor is working and if you have a cable operated throttle to the body check that it is not broken. IT may be your throttle motor is not working

I just replaced Fuel Pump, truck starts fine but when I drive it bogs out like its running out of gas

Assuming it does have gas in the tank, I would check the fuel pressure at the rail if its MFI or the throttle body if the injector are there.
Also, did you replace the fuel filter when you replaced the pump ?
Any chance you connected the pump to the wire that goes to the sending unit by mistake ?

My Titan won't rev over 1500 rpm what's wrong?

Hello, number of things. Have you run a diagnostic test on your truck? It could be throttle sensor, air flow sensor, electronic spark advance, extremely dirty fuel filter, dirty air filter. fuel pump,
fuel ratio sensor, and they are many other components that can go wrong. GB...stewbison
