I also get "Service engine soon" light, i took it to the dealer and he replaced spark plugs but the problem is still there.....i still get a "service engine soon" light and engine shake on idle run.

so he advised me that vehicle may need a cylinder head, cyl head gasket or engine

    Is that accurate?

Also, is it safe to drive long miles trip like 800 miles trip in this situation.

    please advise

    Thanks

Tech at a BMW dealer said there is a misfire in CYL 3 and 4. He did a compression check and CYL 1,2,5,6 were above 160 PSI. CYL 3 and 4 were below 100PSI.

Also, please advise if it's okay to drive this car for long trip based on this problem.

    Thanks,

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. A bad 02 sensor would put the fuel injection system into "limp home" mechanical mode. It may run very rich and may result over fueling of some wet plugs. Also check the spark plugs. If still the problem persists, then you need to change the 02 sensor. Engine Shake can also be due to a broken fan blade, also check the fan clutch. It could also be a symptom of a vacuum leak or possibly bad compression in one or more of the cylinders. Please check the idle speed air valve (slide valve) and replace the part whichever is gone bad.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

    Hi

If its not vacuum leak or bad compression in one or more of the cylinders then you need to replace the cylinder head. Also you can get a new engine if you think that'll be a better option.

It's not okay to drive this car for long trip based on this problem. As you already went through compression check then the best option would be to replace cylinder head/engine.

    Thanks

SOURCE: engine shakes and hesitate when started until it idles down

Sounds like its missing on 1 or more cylinders. A check of the plugs and wires is in order, Could be a fouled plug or a loose/bad sparkplug wire. Best of luck.

SOURCE: Engine shakes when Idling/ Check Engine Light started blinking

i just fixed a similar problem on my van there is a rubber elbow on the end of the pvc hose that connects to the valve cover you can only buy the elbow with the hose and it costs about 100 bucks but i guess they have had to replace a lot of these because the new one looks twice has strong you just have to check and see if its collapsed in on itself preventing air movement or leaking the shop will charge you 175 dollars to fix it plus the part but it only takes 20 minutes good luck

What would cause truck to shake very hard or rough when starting?

I really need to know the mileage.....?..also the question isn't very clear ...Is the whole truck shaking roughly or is the engine shaking roughly or is it both the engine and truck shaking..?..Since I am not sure I will answer what I can....Ok......If the truck is shaking while sitting still at idle the engine/trans mounts could be worn and or loose mounting hardware...If the engine is running roughly at idle causing all to shake that bad it could be a number of things causing it as usual...Quite often a faulty plug wire/and or bad plug will make it have a misfire because it will be running on only 5 cylinders..If that's the case it could be more than one bad...A vacuum leak will cause it to perform in the same manner...however all cylinders will be firing..Normally a vacuum leak is easy to pinpoint..however it could be a faulty IAC valve..(IDLE AIR CONTROL)..The idle air control is designed to hold a high idle at start up then slowly bring idle down to proper Rpm.....A faulty TPS (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR) will also cause a rough running problem..And let's not forget the O2 sensor..(OXYGEN SENSOR)..The O2 sensor controls air/fuel mixture...and yes an exhaust manifold gasket will make it run rough but not too bad...It has a rough running sound more so than causing it to horribly shake..It will shake but not to bad..
it is located at the exhaust side of engine..The exhaust manifold is mounted to the engine exhaust port..the exhaust pipe is mounted to the exhaust manifold and the muffler/cat converter is mounted to the exhaust pipe...You can check the plug wires quickly..With engine running carefully remove plug wires 1 at a time..If the sound of engine gets worse the wire you removed is good..after verifying it is good or bad plug wire back on then pull the next wire..and so on..If you pull a wire off and there is no change in engine operation that is the bad wire..If that is the case change all plugs and wires...One at a time..(It is a good idea to make sure all wires come off easily before starting engine..old wires will come apart easily..grasp wire tightly at boot and twist left to right while pulling..)as far as the other components I spoke as well as many others, the best, easy way is to have it hooked to a scanner and they can check/test all components for proper operation...Now..If it runs good but is shaking the engine/trans mounts are worn as I stated earlier..any loose engine component will cause an engine shake also but you should notice it at a glance...engine mount bolts/nuts being loose can be tightened without changing mounts if caught in time..Trans could be coming loose.also worn clutch will cause vibration...Send more info and I can guide you to remove and replace any faulty components you may find to save you money.........Brooks/Metalpoet.....

Van shaking

Have the engine mounts checked. If the van runs OK, and it idles OK except for shaking at idle, it may be loose or broken engine mounts.

run fault codes and look for position sensors --MAP/MAF/VAF sensor problems and fuel /injector faults.

After the engine start running for sometime it starts shaking.

hi this could be a few things, i would check your idle as a very low idle will cause engine shaking when the engine is near stalling, idle should be around 700rpm approx when warm. If that checks out all good check the leads and that one is not getting worn and causing a misfire or a vaccum hose is not off, both will cause similar problem. The last thing i can think of is a broken engine mount causing problem as when motor idles or runs at a certain rpm it will shake harder and may be the cause aswell

Engine idling varies depending on light or aircon is on/off

dude its normal for first start or cold start that the idle is ok but it must high than normal... its normal because the engine is warming up it self... when it gets warm, the idle speed will return normal idle... your engine is 1200cc, it has not much HP for a great load... and i know its a carburatored engine and its an old engine, your head lyt and a/c fan and aux fan and all the electrical system on your car, uses the HP of you engine and its a lot of load to the alternator driven by the engine to generate an electricity they need and thats why the engine rpm speed lowering down to dead and its shake. thats why when you use your lyts or all electrical, you engine is weakening... the best remede is adjusting you idle speed... its located behind the carburator.. its a small black knob.. just make a twist each eighter way and you'll find out if your idle rpm speed ts incresing or decresing.. just increase it and try opening your lyts and other electrical, if its still shaking then adjust it a little more
