In the Nissan service manual it is called the "Headlamp Bulb Plastic Cap". This part covers the bulb. Then you twist the bulb socket to remove the bulb.

How to change headlight lamp drivers side

On the back, engine side of the headlights there is a rectangular plate which allows access to the bulbs (lamps) to remove this there are locking bars, pry these, up and down away from the plate, remove plate.
The headlamp bulb is the larger one and is retained with a spider clip, above the bulb pinch the spider clip and push slightly forward while opening the pinch. The bulb should now be loose with a wiring block attached.
Slide the bulb out of the recess, remove the wiring harness by pulling the block away from the bulb.
You can now replace bulb, which should have a protective sleeve of foam or card protecting the glass, do not touch the glass of the bulb, touching the glass will cause the bulb to blow when it gets hot.
To replace bulb, push spider clip away from recess, while holding the metal part of the bulb remove sleeve and insert bulb into recess, turn the bulb to ensure it has seated flat into recess, refit spider clip over bulb pushing forwards then pinching, refit wiring harness.
Check the lights to ensure bulb is working.

How do I change my headlight?

On 97 and up Oldsmobile Silhouette, Pontiac Montana, Pontiac Transport, and Chevy Venture Van,

  • When you open the hood and look at the headlight assembly. At the top between the turn signal and headlight there is a black plastic wing nut. Unscrew that wing nut to remove the side marker light. After removing that nut persuade the side marker light to slide forward. That's the only thing that locks it in place. Untwist the socket to replace the turn signal bulb. Since that is out now...There are two more wing nuts just like the first one that hold the headlight assembly in place on top of the radiator support. (The black plastic piece the headlight is mounted to) Remove these two wing nuts and lift up on the whole assembly. Those are the only things that actually lock it into place. Once you slide it up off the studs the wing nuts were on. Unplug the plug from the back of the light (use a flat screwdriver to lift the tab a little). Twist the round plastic ring that holds the bulb in. The bulb should pull out now. Don't touch the new bulb with your fingers as it is a halogen bulb and the oil on your fingers will cause a hot spot on it, causing it to fail SOON. If you happen to touch the glass part of the headlight bulb, clean it with rubbing alcohol. Reverse the steps...go eat dinner.
If this pertained to your vehicle and helped in any way please take the time to rate, as I took the time to write it. Thank you.

I actually just did this a couple days ago, this takes about 20 minutes and a little bit of patience. When you pop your hood you will see a protective piece of plastic over the headlights/radiator, you firstly have to remove the plastic clips holding that piece then pull that piece of plastic off, once done u will see 2 bolts holding each headlight in place, i believe it is a 9/16 socket but if not just find the one that fits, remove the 4 bolts (2 for each headlight) and pull the headlight in an up and outwards manor. if you feel any resistance do not yank look at why it is catching and clear it, then it should just pop out (the headlight and the corner piece and clipped together so dont pull it too far out) then when the bulb is accessible pull the old bulb, put the new bulb in and voila place the headlight back into position, redo the 4 bolts holding the headlights and re-attach the plastic headlight/radiator cover. Enjoy the new lights

How to change headlight on 2000 galant

  • 1
Place the Mitsubishi on a flat service in park. Set the parking brake before continuing.

  • 2Open the Galant's hood and locate the headlight cover -- roughly 3-inch wide circular piece of plastic -- behind the headlight bulb intended for replacement. Turn this cover clockwise to unlock it and pull it from the headlight assembly, exposing the headlight socket below it.

    3

Hold the rear of the headlight socket and turn it counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the headlight socket and bulb from the headlight assembly.

    4

Grab the bulb and pull it from the socket with a slight wiggling motion.

    5

Pick up the new 9003 headlight bulb using a clean, lint-free cloth and line up its prong with the slots in the socket. Never tough the bulb with your bare hands, as the oils left by your hands can cause the bulb to burn out prematurely.

    6

Slide the socket and new bulb into the headlight assembly and turn the socket clockwise to lock it into place.

    7

Place the plastic cover behind the bulb and turn it counterclockwise to lock it into place.

    8

Repeat Steps 1 through 7 for the headlight bulb on the other side of the Galant, if needed.

    9Close the Galant's hood.

    Removing headlamp

  • Place a piece of cardboard between the headlight and the bumper to protect your vehicle from getting scratched when you remove the headlight. Use masking tape to hold the cardboard in place.
  • 2 Remove the four screws that hold the headlight to the vehicle's frame. Pull the headlight away from the vehicle's frame so you have access to the back of the headlight.
  • 3 Locate the electrical connector block on the back of the headlight. Squeeze the sides of the block and pull it away from the headlight to access the bulb.
  • 4 Remove the bulb from the headlight. Push the bulb in, toward the connector block, and turn it until it releases. Push the new bulb into the block and turn it until it locks in place.
  • 5 Plug the electrical connector block back into the headlight and place the headlight back into the vehicle's frame. Secure the headlight with the screws. Remove the cardboard from the vehicle bumper.

    How to install a headlight

Locate the headlight bulb in the engine compartment, in the rear of the headlight assembly. It has a wiring harness connector attached to it.

Remove the wiring harness connector from the bulb. Release the locking tab on the connector and pull it off the bulb. Lay it aside

Locate the locking ring on the back of the headlight assembly. Turn the lock ring 1/8 of a turn counterclockwise to release the lock from the headlight assembly. Remove the lock ring and set it in a safe place.Remove the headlight bulb from the headlight assembly, pulling it straight back toward the engine. Discard the old bulb, unless you are reusing the bulbs in the Jeep.Insert a new bulb into the headlight assembly. (Be careful not to touch the glass when handling the bulb. The oils from your hands can cause it to overheat and shatter.)Install the headlight lock ring onto the headlight assembly and turn it clockwise 1/8 of a turn to lock the bulb into the assembly. Connect the wiring harness connector to the new bulb, ensuring that it seats completely on the bulb.Move to the opposite headlight and repeat the process to replace the second bulb. Turn on the lights to verify they are working correctly.

How do i install headlight bulb

To replaced a headlight bulb you have to remove the headlight assembly. You have to open the hood and remove the large black plastic shield first. This is done by pulling out the round center pieces of the hold down clips. Then removing the remaining pieces of the clips. (there are two different size clips...remember where they went and keep the parts separate so you won't get confused). Then remove the two locks located on the top of the headlight containing the burnt bulb. These locks may be a little hard to pull out. When these locks are removed, the light assembly should slide out with a little wiggling. Of course be careful to not drop the assembly. Remove the faulty bulb using a counterclockwise twist. Be careful...the bulb may be hot if you have had the bulb in use. Then unplug the bulb and lay it aside. Be careful not to touch the glass of the new bulb while you are installing it. If you do , clean it with alcohol and a tissue. Install the new bulb into the light assembly(slowly turn it until it falls into place, then a clockwise twist will lock it in). Only plug in the new bulb after you have reinstalled it. It is easier to handle the new bulb without the wiring attached. After you have installed the new bulb...then just reverse the procedure. Before reassembling everything...be sure to check that the bulb is working. After you have checked the new bulb then reinstall the light assembly, then the locks..then the black plastic panel(remember that the plastic panel needs to slide into the fenders on both sides for proper fit)...then install the clips. Close the hood and presto...you're done. Of course, like any job, if you are unsure you should let a pro repair it. Good luck...
