Question about GMC Sierra 1500

1 Answer

My truck is the two wheel drive with 4.8L V8. The truck usually runs flawlessly and twice recently it loses power on the highway. It stalls if you push the gas but I was able to drive it about 80 miles home (it stalled and conked out four times). Today it started acting up when I went to lunch. It would run but not if I gave it gas, I had to really baby the gas to keep moving. Then it was fine. Until... driving home I stalled out twice on the highway. Last time I replaced the fuel filter and it was perfect for about two weeks. Both days were hot and humid. What do you think...also last time I hooked it to the computer which said it was running too lean. Also there were codes for air metering and I used the MAF cleaner on the Mass Air Sensor. I think it is a gas prob....replaced fuel pump 2 years ago. My guy Mike in Stuart, Fl said that the Fuel system should be good for 80,000 miles.

This really sounds like the oxygen sensor. It's job is to determine, in real time, if the air fuel ratio of a combustion engine is rich or lean. Since oxygen sensors are located in the exhaust stream, when information from oxygen sensors is coupled with information from other sources, it can be used to indirectly determine the air-to-fuel ratio.

Loss of power at highway speed is usually clogged fuel filter or clogged air filter. Checking fuel pressure won't tell you if the filter is clogging up. You can still have pressure, just no volume. Air filters can do the same, except it will usually die or stumble coming to stops. The abs and disable light won't affect the engine performance. Hopefully you have a bad wheel sensor that is also disabling the AWD. The sensor is around $100 the actuator for the AWD is over $300

Please any suggestion ? 98' V8 5.2 ; Won't turn after highway run ! Either left or right, cranky noise , shaking ,strong vibration from the front wheels.BUT; when is cooling down -after 30 min.

I suggest that you check your front CV joints. It is common for the boots to tear, allowing the grease to leak out. Lack of lubrication, dirt and moisture destroys the joint. You can purchase a remanufactured shaft ready to install at some part stores. I have a '93 Grand Cherokee with 220,000 miles, and over its life, I have replaced both sides twice. Good luck!

Sounds like it is starving for fuel. change the fuel filter. May have trash clogging it up. If problem still continues check your plugs for spark when it dies and wont crank. This would lead to bad coil or ignition module.
