Question about 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

I replaced the rear drums and pads. The passenger side is fine but the driver side keeps freezing up

Check it to make sure you have all the springs on the correct way. The self adjuster and spring is usually the cause.

You may need to adjust the cable for your hand brake. The driver's side is too tight and the passenger side is too loose. Best thing to do is drop the hand brake (e-brake) down, loosen the adjuster on the drum, then lift the hand brake until you hear 5 clicks. Then adjust the handbrake cable on both sides until the disk just stops.

Locking brake on the rear passenger side!


Its probably the rubber hose that goes between the metal break line and the caliper. That hose is like a 2 way valve that lets fluid into the caliper when brakes are applied and lets fluid back out when brakes are released. These hoses deteriorate and stop letting fluid back out causing the brake to stay tight against rotor.

Yes this may sounds like the brakes have glazed over. This best way to fix this is to replace the pads and get the drum skimmed. At a local dealer, they will put the drum on a special lathe, and take a very small cut from the inside diameter of the drum. They will also measure the drum first, to see how viable it is to skim or wether full replacement is your best and cheapest option. After skimming it will have the finish comparable to a brand new drum. Also check the operation of the slave cylinder (what operates the pads) to be sure that is working correctly. Goodluck! Rear brakes. is there a heat shield or is it a dust shield


If it is in front of the passenger side rear brake, it is a dust sheild installed in an attempt to keep the brake pads from wearing out prematurely. This does not work very well. Do what I do and double the life of your pads. I remove the lower brake caliper stud and flip up the caliper, remove the pads and swap with the drivers side. The drivers side does not wear for some reason, and you will probably have to squeeze in the caliper for the pads to fit back over the rotor. This only takes 4-5 minutes if you do it every 10k miles or so (keeps everything from rusting stuck). I do it to mine when I do a winter tire changeover.

Brake job on 1994 isuzu trooper


are they drums on the rear? if not you can do this. on the caliper there should be 2 bolts holding it on. loosen one and pull the other out. lift the caliper up or down remove pads open the master cylinder so that you can compres the piston on the caliper. if you dont open the master sylinder cap it will be very tough. replace pads. tighten bolts nice and snug. then with car off pump brakes till tough. make sure you fill the master sylinder up that way no air gets in to it. if you do you gonna have to bleed the brakes. if that happens start at the passenger side rear then driver side rear then passenger front then driver front. please lemme know if you need help or if i helpd at all

Spongy brakes 1996 Chevy C1500


You can adjust the shoes outward on the rear by removing the wheels and drums, then above the axle but below the wheel cylinder you will see an arm that is horizontal, pushing both of the shoes outwards. There should be an adjustment nut that you can turn to extend the arm to push the shoes out.
