You may have a flex fuel truck ,and if that is the case the fuel filter has a problem with it pluging up. I would start by replacing it ,you can tell if its that kind of filter if it has three lines going to it.

First thought: Check the idle air control valve, or whatever its Ford equivalent is. Sometimes these start to stick and cause the rough early idle that smooths out later.

You might be having computer failure. You would need to use a heat gun on the computer. On 2 minutes off 2 minutes to see if the problem can be duplicated.

My 1991 ford f150 dies after 20 minutes and wont start again for another 20

Could be a bad coil. Sometimes when a 'bad' coil heats up it will fail to work properly. When it fails and shuts the vehicle off, this gives it time to cool back down and resume proper operation. Does it run at normal highway speed during that 20 minutes? If not then it could be a clogged fuel filter. A clogged fuel filter will let the vehicle run at idle but will starve the engine at higher rpm's.

Does it do this if you run a higher grade of gas? Kind of sounds like vapor lock, but i got to admit, if it is, its the first time i have seen it happen on this new of a truck. When was the last time the fuel filter was chg.

Engine starves for fuel after running about 50 miles or so...

Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.

Cuts off in warm weather after about 10 miles

Don't rule out fuel pump. Had a 95 do the same, ran great when cool in morning then when it got hot in afternoon, it would quit. Wait 15-20 minutes & go again, sometimes got me home, other times a few more miles until it cooled down again. Luckily I had access to a fuel pressure gauge. Cool in morning had 49 psi, when it quit, 2 psi. Wait 20 minutes, 49 psi again. If you can drive it around until it starts to act up then run into a repair shop for fuel pressure test it will confirm it. If not, they may need it all day to monitor the fuel pressure & confirm it is pump. If your a gambler, change it & fuel filter. One thing I did get was trouble codes indicating a lean mixture, due to starving for fuel. Have you cycled your key to retrieve any codes yet?

Engine surges when cold - Once it warms up it runs fine

If carburated, I would suspect a sticking choke, making the fuel mix way too rich.
