I have had a tune-up etc., I was told there was a sensor that could be going bad don't know. When I am out on the road air works great! cold! but when in town at a stop sign it does drop the RPM down just a touch then when I push accelerator is when it spits. It has died once @ a red light but started right back up. And once @ a stop it spit and sputtered and then the check egine light came on for about 20 seconds or so.

Under steady acceleration, engine light goes on

Being a 95 it dosent have OBD2 so it may not store a trouble code in the computer.
From the symptoms it sounds like either, Air flow sensor, O2 sensor
The O2 will not usually cause stalling under acceleration.

2001 Mazda 626 sputters like it is out of fuel or spark

Could be a spark plug wire is wrong.. Just two that are almost right will make a vehical do that or the plugs could need a little more space adjusted in the gap. Or it could be a hose that is lose or has a hole in it.

Check the wires one at a time for oil on them when you remove them fron cylinder spark plug. If there is an excess of oil on them, they will short out to the housing under load and wii eventually kill the coil unit. They are not cheap, but if bad replace all at same time. Ford sells the wires and mazda. I would advise replacing the plugs with good plugs like ngk or denso. I will check again tomorrow to see if you need further help

Sounds to me like a fuel related problem. When heavy accelerating more fuel is pushed through the system. I would check the fuel filter, and its possible its the fuel pump, but usually once the pump starts acting up, within a few days it will go out all together.
