Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

My 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee has 113,000 miles on it, and I'm debating whether to trade it in for a pretty decent rate. I love this car ahnd have not had many issues with it, but I just want to know if it's going to break down on my as I drive from Chicago to LA. Should I trade it in or milk my baby til its dry?

200K + is not uncommon for a Jeep, especially if you have a 4.0 engine. Providing you keep up with all service including transfer case, steering and brake fluid annual change and differentials. I use all synthetics in mine (except for differentials, where I use regular lube and lucas additive) and, get over 350K as routine!!

What is the trade value, 86000 miles, good condition

The trade value will vary on what options this Jeep came with from the factory and also the overall mechanical and cosmetic condition. Here on the east coast of the USA, this vehicle would sell if you were to sell it yourself for about $5000.00 easy. The kids love these old school Jeeps. The dealer may beat you up on the price for a trade in.

My Jeep reved up when only the brake was engaged and didn't want to stop what would cause this? It only happened once.

You might want to contact dealer right away & check for any recalls or service bulletins pertaining to what you experienced, or call owner relations in manual, and advise them of what happened. They tend to move pretty quick on items such as that. In meantime, have a plan in case it happens again. Get it checked a.s.a.p.

Hood struts have failed on 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Despite what the auto manufacturers would have you believe, OEM parts are no better than aftermarket parts, and aftermarket are a good bit cheaper. If the struts are like the ones that were on the hood of my 1993 Eagle Vision or on my 1996 Dodge Intrepid (both traded long ago), or on the tailgate of my 2004 PT Cruiser (all Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Eagle products) they are a ball and socket configuration. They pop off the ball using an old screwdriver, and pop back on using slip joint pliers. If you find this helpful, please remember to rate it.
