Check your fuel filter. When you hit the gas more fuel flows through and can pick up junk from the tank and block the fuel filter. After you let it set for awhile the junk falls back down and the car will start again.

Maybe a loose wire. Check motor mounts to make sure engine does not move excessively under load.

SOURCE: In cold weather my 97 f 250 7.3 turbo is hard to start.

Are you using your block heater? I had the same problem this winter. I didn't think my truck had a block heater because it hadn't been pulled out all these years and I couldn't find it. I finally found it under the battery on the driver side. It was still factory tied up. Anyway, I plugged in the truck for about two hours. When I tried to start it, the light was only on for about 3 seconds and it started right up.

SOURCE: 97 GMC diesel just quit while driving on highway

First thing on a diesel problem such as yours, would be FUEL FILTER. On GM diesels a clogged filter affects a diesel even more than on a gas engine. NOW if the filter doesn't cure your problems, I'm afraid tio say the injection pump could be at fault, and thats another story. Hope this helps

My 1998 Lincoln Towncar stopped in the middle of the street it turns over but won't crank it has 3 dashes where it says fuel remain what is the problem?

Hi Eric:
Maybe it needs a dash more fuel.
Kidding, but maybe not.
If it was running fine and then just quit, the first suspect is no fuel.

Hope you got it off the street and into a safe place.

I'd start by putting some fuel in and giving it a try.

Then you get into trouble shooting, check for spark and fuel pump function, fuel delivery (injectors or carb)
Or a tow to the local garage.

What would cause temperature gauge bouncing ?

Sounds like the sending unit has an intermittent short to ground. Unhook the the wire from the sending unit, and see if the needle stops jumping around. If it quits jumping around, replace the sending unit. If it still jumps around, you have a bare spot somewhere on the wire and it is hitting ground which will cause the needle to jump. Cut out the bad part of the wire and splice in a new section. That should fix it.

2004 Intrepid- when I start the car the RPM surges. If I put it in gear right away and try driving it continues surging down the street. If I start the car and wait like a minute before driving it usually...

The check engine light should be on and when it is the engine controls are in Limp mode. That means the computer is using a pre-set list of settings to try to keep the engine running long enough to get the car to a shop.
You need to get the problem with the MAP sensor fixed and get the light turned off.

97 lumina, 3.1. Starts runs smooth, drive for 30

I just recently have been fighting the same problem with the same make/model/year vehicle. For myself, I would drive off and on through the day and it would run fine. Then suddenly after a start it would run rough and die. I would have to wait 20 to 60 mins before it would start again. I had it checked and fuel pump was only putting out around 19 psi. It should be around 41 psi. Had fuel pump replaced and no more problems. Furthermore, now it runs so much better. It's funny how over time I didn't notice how the performance was slowly degrading. Unfortunaley fuel pumps for this car run around $300.

I hace a 2003 lincoln ls v8 3.9l. I was driving

Try taking the exhaust pipe loose at the manifold. I had a Chevy Suburban that acted the same way, it turned out to plugged catyletic converter. The converter wasn't letting the exhaust out, the truck had no power, it would stall and then start right up and great for about five seconds the run rough and quit. Once I disconnected the exhaust it started right up and ran great. You could also try taking the O2 sensors out (for test purposes) ahead of the converter that will give the exhaust a place to go
