If the thermostat not working how will I know 1994 cadillac 4.9L

Could be some overheating problem there; on 4.5L and 4.9L engines, check this procedure:
* Drain the coolant to a level below the thermostat housing.
* It may be necessary to remove the upper air filter assembly on some models.
* Remove the 2 bolts securing the upper thermostat housing to the lower housing.
* Remove the upper thermostat housing.
* Remove the thermostat and O-ring from the lower housing.

I have a 96 Chevy Monte Carlo 3.1 V-6. Today, I noticed the temp gauge was pegged. Had not driven it very far. about four or five blocks. Check engine light came on. smelled antifreeze. It had plenty of...

Hello... The thermostat is located, as you are standing in front of the car, facing the engine. Swing around to the right side (drivers), still facing the engine. With the Air Filter assembly removed, look at the engine below the throttle valve (the item were the throttle cable is connected). You should see at least one of the 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing to the engine.

It's not in an easy place but with a couple parts removed removing it is not hard.

Good Luck...

Power loss

Sounds like induction noise, ask the repair shop to check all the air intake pipe connections(hose clips) that they had to remove to replace the thermostat.

Camry overheating

Possible stuck thermostat(located front LH side below the alternator), or faulty water pump(inside timing cover)!! The fan has no connectors because its hydraulic driver through the power steering pump(V-6 models only). You may disconnect the switch on the powersteering pump to test the fan.....with the switch unplugged rev the motor to 2200RPM and you should hear the fan increase in speed. If not check the filter (LH side of the radiator) its black with rubber tubing on each side. Check also power steering fluid. Hopefully this helps!!

How to replace the thermostat

First drain the radiator of some coolant to the point where it won't spill over because you will be removing the radiator hose near the radiator cap. remove the hose. the thermostat housing is located at the end of the hose. remove the housing. then remove the thermostat. when removing the housing notice how the thermostat is installed. And be sure to have a new gasket with the thermostat. Remove all residue from the housing and the engine and put some grease to hold the new gasket in place. The replace the thermostat making sure it fits flush with the housing so you won't break the housing when reinstalling the bolts. Replace the hose and refill with coolant. Start the engine to make sure no leaks are present.
