Several things can cause this. I'm 99% sure the sensor for the fan control is in the radiator its self. 3 wires if I remember correctly, This is the most common problem. If you dont know how to test it I recomend taking it to a garage. Is antifreeze full? Above the level of the sensor? The fans themself could be bad. Do either of them come on when you turn on the A/C? if so, that fan is good for sure. Either way, welcome to the wold of VW, time to test some wires. That gets a bit to involved to detail in here. Best bet for the D.I.Y.er is buy the dealer manual. Expensive but woth every penny!

Check to see if the fans are goig on.
That's the first most common problem.
You can check the fans by starting the car and turning on the air conditioner.
The fans switch on the same time that the air turns on on all VW's.
Second check for colant leaks.
Third you might need a new thermostat.
What ever you do dont let that VR6 get to hot it will melt.
Just remember youre looking at half a masarati engine under that hood, and it costs half as much to repair one that has a melted piston.
If you can't find the problem really don't mess around.
Good luck,gary.
PS if it's the fan the relay bank blew, you can cross wire it in a pinch but thats about all.

THE AIR CONDITIONING IN MY 2000 JETTA VR6 JUST STOPPED WORKING, NO WARNING. I HAD TWO DIFFERANT MECHANICS LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID THAT THE COMPRESSOR IS NOT GETTING ANY VOLTAGE, BUT WHEN THEY JUMP VOLTAGE TO THE COMPRESSOR IT STILL WILL NOT START. THEY SAID THE COMPRESSOR SEEMS TO BE OKAY. ANY SUGGESTIONS

1996 vw jetta vr6 keeps overheating,

Get another boyfriend! "Just kidding"! ok, this is what I mean about "leaving it to the experts". #1 Make sure there is enough coolant, Check for leaks. Install a coolant pressure tester and check for leaks. Fix whats leaking. #2 Make sure coolant fans are coming on, and specifically at 220 degrees. If not, check fuses. Jump the coolant fan to make sure it comes on. if it does, then you may have a bad relay, make sure relay is commanded on. At this point , you may need a wire schematic for the coolant fans and related parts.

After I drive around 30 KM, my 2000 Jetta VR6 's temperature goes up from 90 deg to alarm.

First when it has cooled down, check the water level in the radiator. Then determine it overheats while idling, does the fan turn on?

1.1 mm is the standard gap for a platinum tipped plug. Plugs for this car usually come pre-set but it's always worth checking before installing. Hope this helps.
