You need to jack up the vehicle, pull the wheels off and do a visual inspection of the brake pads and rotors. It sounds like the brake pads have worn out, and the grinding is the metal pad that the brake lining is bonded to is making contact with the brake rotor (the round disk that the brake pads make contact with to stop the vehicle). The rotor should be smooth, if the pads are worn out, there will be grooves visible from making contact with the worn out brake pads.

Grinding noise

Sounds like something came apart. Go immediately back to who ever worked on them for an inspection before major damage. If you do not like the answer (you just wore them out and it will cost......) Go to someone else now. Grinding noises from brakes are never good.

Everytime i stop it feels like something isgrinding in the front

Have your brakes checked. Hyundai has a habit of grinding up not just the fronts, but also the rear brakes prematurely.

Otherwise, look under your vehicle and make sure you aren't in fact, dragging a plastic piece from your under body.

Good luck!

Every time i press on my brakes it feels like it grinds on something and making it a loud grinding noise what can it be?

The brake pads sound worn and are grinding into the rotors due to low lining on them.Have the brake pads replaced, hopefully they did not ruin your rotors with grooves yet. Please let me know if this helps

SOUNDS LIKE ITS THE FRONT BRAKE GRINDING 3TO5 MPH YOU CAN FEEL IT GRINDING ALMOST LOCKING UP I LOOKED THROUGH THE RIMS AT THE ROTOR IT DOESNT LOOK BAD.COULD THE STRUTS BE TO BLAME CAUSE I PLAN ON...

If the brakes are grinding 3 to 5 mph, and you feel it, the rotors may not look bad, yet, but the pads may be worn down. I don't think the struts have anything to do with grinding. Struts have to do with the bouncing up and down of the front end when going over bumps.

Good luck on this repair.

Grinding noise

Usually a grinding noise in a disc brake is caused from a rotor with a raised edge that froms from normal wear. The raised edge is not a big deal until you install NEW disc brake pads. All of the sudden you have a grinding noise everytime you apply the brake because the NEW disc pad is being ground down but the raised surface created from the OLD Disc Brake Pad. Most of the time the Brake repair shops turn rotors on the car when the pads are replaced and this grinding symptom does not manifest itself.

On and OLD set of disc brake pads over time that raised area on the rotor starts to flake / rust / corrode and can come in contact with the brake disc pad when the brakes are applied.

Hope this explains it well enough.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Everytime im driving slow and i brake my brakes grind and i have to press hard to come to a stop. it rarely happens when im going at higher speeds although it has happened. Whats the problem?

normally grinding and a hard pedal mean excessive wear on the brake pads, you wont feel it as much at higher speeds, at low speads its more previlant due to the pressure......check front pads first, the rear ones usually wear a lot slower

Grinding sound

It could be a wheel bearing or possibly the differential (4x4's). Check your brakes any way for safety's sake.

Sounds like the pads are worn out and are grinding on the rotors. You will likely have to replace the pads and rotors.
