Question about 1999 Honda Civic

2 Answers

My car has a problem with reverse gear, forward works fine. When put in reverse the car won't move for a few seconds. The transmission does sound like it has been put in (reverse) gear eventhough the car won't move. Then when the car decides to move, you'd hear a "clunk" sound. This happens less frequently when the engine is hot after a long drive. pls help

My car has had this issue ever since I purchased it. It's very stubborn going in to reverse. Sometimes it takes 2-3 tries to get it fully into gear. I've talked with other Civic owners that said they have the same issue that are pretty sure it's just a flaw with the design. Definitely not worth a $1300 overhaul! I've been the only owner for the last 10 years and haven't worried about it. No other transmission issues.

Could be a bent selector or might just need to tighten it up

Reverse it took a few seconds to engage into gear to move when it moved I put it in drive and went forward then a small thumb occur and the motor stopped what

Does it kill the motor when you try to put it in gear now(fwd or rev)? Sounds like the torque converter clutch. Transmission part. Usually at about 150,000 miles. Hope that helps.

Transmission issue w/Ford Taurus?

Sorry to tell you this. You have an AXOD/AX4N Transmission and it is going bad on you. Soon, it is going to strand you on the road.

This Transmission is a Money Maker for the Mechanics and Transmission shops around the world.

Some people will put Lucas into their transmissions to extend the life of the Transmission but there are people who do that and cause it do DIE!!!! and I mean Immediately.

I am sorry to give you the bad news but at least it is Honest...

You have a failed automatic transmission. You will need to remove and replace it or have it rebuilt.

I bought a 92 Chev 2500 4X4 from a guy just recently. He said the tranny wont go into gear. I found the transfer case was in neutral. So i put it in gear and away it goes. But reverse seamed sluggish. ...

If your transmission is a 700r4 (4l60) you have a reverse band that engages when you want to go in reverse. since it drives forward your low reverse clutch and your fwd clutch are working. This leaves the band which was probably slipping now is not engaging.

No forward movement but reverse works fine. Help?

More than likely the forward clutches are burnt, causing the no forward movement problem.Remove the transmission dipstick and smell the fluid,if it smells like burnt coffee then you need the transmission rebuilt.

I have a 97 VW Golf auto trans, I have no reverse gear, no noise when placed in gear it just wont move, all forward gears work fine, any ideas for me

Check your fluid level to make sure its up to the specified level, then I'd be checking out your linkage from your shifter inside the car right to the transmission, it sounds like to me your linkage may be worn enough to put the vehicle in drive but not reverse. The linkage bushings are a common problem on vdubs. See if you can put the car in reverse by moving the linkage arm directly attached to the transmission (make sure you have someone in the car with the brakes on or caulk the wheels) if it does go into reverse when you manually move the direct linkage arm at the transmission then replace your linkage bushings, if not then the only other problem would be a transmission internal problem. Good luck
