It sounds like you may have a bad oil pressure sending unit gone bad and leaking oil, you should have that replaced soon as possible and you can do it your self with common tools. Go to Auto Zone and they should have the oil pressure sensor and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the oil sensor with the new one. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have. As your at Auto Zone have then scan your car for any DTC codes just to make sure that is not anything else wrong that we may have over sean.

My oil light comes on when I stop

Check and make sure your engine has the recommend amount. When you stop your vehicle the engine is at idle and has a lower oil pressure then when your car is driving. A oil light is a pressure gauge, when the light is on when stopped is the first sign of an oil leak, most likely the oil pan gasket.

Oil light comes on when warmed up and makes slight knocking noise on a 2000 sunfire. what is the cause?

It's most likely low oil pressure. This should be checked out by using a mechanical guage, assuming you have checked the oil level and it is full. This is likely a result of high mileage and old age so unless the engine is in pristeen shape, your best bet is to probably start using a higher viscosity oil, like 15W40 or 20W50. Putting a new oil pump in an old motor isn't normally cost efficient. You put the pump in and then you start fixing other things. The heavier will build your pressure and make the knocking noise go away for a while. It's time to consider your options. Hope this helps.

I was driving on the freeway going up a slight incline when the engine seemed like it was winding up but wouldnt shift into the next gear. It also seemed like it had less power and there was no O/D. I...

Hi there,

You definately have a transmission problem.

When was the last time the transmission fluid was completely replaced? Trans fluid is CRITICAL for proper shifting operation. The measuring of trans fluid is also critical and must be measured in a certain way (engine warm, selector moved through all gears, then finally left in N, while checking for hot level).

Your trans also has a fail-safe function - when a fault is detected, the trans will go into "LIMP" mode. This still allows driving, but will usually remain in 3rd gear. In this instance, the "N" (Neutral) light on your dash may also flash.

If you are technically inclined, I can provide your with instructions on how to check your trans computer for fault codes...

Let me know...

98 Subaru leaking oil

Oil leak will not change run temp but can cause a fire.
The smoke is the oil burning on the engine. The 1st thing you need to do is clean the oil off the engine.
Next top oil off to the full line on the dip stick. Now start the engine hold idle up to around 1600 rpm for 1 to 2 minutes keep engine run and look for the oil leak. Don't get caught in any moving parts and things will be hot so be careful. Most likely from your valve cover.

Possible oil leak

Sounds like you may have a valve cover leaking and the oil is dripping down on the manifold., burning off when going down the road. When you drive the air will blow this oil everywhere making it look like it 's coming from different places. The oil has built up around the frame or bottom of engine and that's why you're getting leaks on the ground. You can replace this yourself, no special tools. But be sure to keep a check on the oil level.

My low pressure oil light keeps coming on when i stop and i just got my oil changed. The oil is not low. What could be the problem?

That means LOW PRESSURE , not low in volume. Pressure is measured in PSI. The reason that your light comes on when you are at a stop is because your engine goes to idle at a stop and would normally have lower pressure. That doesn't mean you should get a low pressure light though.. I would have it checked by a pro right away as this could be your first warning before a serious problem.

Hopes this Helps,

Check engine light keeps going on and seems to go away when i add a bit of oil. does my car have a leak? is the oil too dirty?

Is the mesument on the dipstick lower each time you check it ? Is there any visable leaks on the pavement under the car ?

Your oil should be changed every 4 to 5 k miles..
