AC Works Intermittently

My AC only works part of the time, gets cold for a while, then moves normal air for a time, then back to cold again. Sometimes it will stay cold for an hour, then others never gets cold.

From reading here, I suspect the problem is the AC low pressure switch (sometimes called the clutch cycling switch), but I don't know where the switch is located. I got the Haynes repair book, but it didn't say a thing about the switch.

I checked the freon level and it shows up in the red zone on my gauge(danger zone).

I don't think it's freezing up because it sometimes doesn't work for the first 20 minutes, then starts working just fine and stays on. Also, the cold air can go on-and-off several times during a 2-hour drive.

A easy way to find your low pres switch is to look for large hose at your compresor and trace it back to the fire wall, the high pres switch is usealy close to your receiver drier which will be the small line

My ac works most of the time.when it starts blowing warm air ,if yo increes the rpms it will blow cold again. I was told the compressor is getting week ?

Cooling radiator may need cleaning and the system may need topping up or new fluid entirely. Any work needs to be done by proper air technitians as it contains dangerous stuff.

AC works for about 300 miles then stops and blows hot air. New AC compressor and freon charge. After sitting for a while it will again blow cold.

I think you have a similar problem to mine. At highway speeds is when it happens. And it is not blazing hot? Right?
Your evaporator is freezing up - as this happens the ice surrounding it prevents the flow of air over the evaporator coils and the result is warm air coming out of the registers. If I turn off the AC for about ten minutes and let unit melt the cold air comes back. This does not occur in stop and go driving.
I combat it by either running the fan at a higher than normal setting to increase air flow over the evaporator and then turning off when it gets too cold, OR using the air control to allow warmer outside air to enter into unit at highway speeds to prevent freezing up.
Newer cars have more sophisticated sensors and controls to prevent this but some older vehicles are subject to this anomaly.
Since it works fine under normal conditions I have not messed around with the freon level in system. If you release a tad of refrigerant the low pressure switch will shut off the compressor sooner and help minimize ice buildup. Good luck.

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with hemi. AC intermittently stops blowing

Sounds like the blower motor or the connection to it is failing.Next time it stops give the area below the glove compartment a good whack,if the blower does anything, change it.

I have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra with an air conditioning problem. The air conditioner works intermittently. As far as I can tell, it works well on extended trips that involve highway driving, but works...

You describe a typical 'cooling fan' problem. When moving through the air, the AC operates normally, but when stopped in traffic, it doesn't... correct?

The electronic control ac works normal on

The temperature control doors are controlled with electric actuators. Often what happens is either the drivers or passenger side temp door actuator will work properly for a while then suddenly move the door all the way to hot or cold [usually hot]. If you shut off the vehicle, wait a bit and restart it, if often will work fine for a time but then act up again after a while. I've replaced quite a few actuators for just this problem. They are located behind the dash on the HVAC unit and are fairly difficult to get to. I don't know if these actuators are available at parts stores yet but I get all of mine from the local GM dealer.
