2007 Mini Cooper convertible, stereo signal got worse and now can't listen to the radio, other functions still work. Have changed aerial and still no change? Any clues??

some sort of bad connection inside the radios socket
or bad coax

check the antenna with an ohm meter
to see if the coax is shorted out
and also that there is continutity between the center pin of the coax radio plug and the antenna

you can demount the radio and stick a bit of wire in as a quick test
if you get the signal then its something coax related
if not its something to do with the front end of the radios reciever circuit
and you need a radio engineer that fixes car radios and cb etc
they will make it work for sure
i could in ten mins flat ...possibly a transistor has failed
or a bad connection as it comes and goes ...

Where is antenna for radio

It is the top[ lines in the rear glass. If you look close, you can see the separation. Most new window tints are metallic, and ruin the antenna, I made sure they didn't tint the antenna on my 2003 Civic. Any aftermarket antenna will work, the antenna cable coming out of the radio is just like any other.

02 ford e 450 ambulance every time we key the radio it shuts off

I assume you mean the Engine shuts off when you key the radio. Two possibilities. One is the radio is drawing too much current from it's circuit (which could be improperly connected to a critical wiring circuit instead of an accessory or direct to battery) OR The RF signal is causing severe interference with the engines electronic controller. in either case, see if you have a "low power" setting on the radio. key it up and see if that has the same effect. If all goes well you know your radio is certainly the culprit in either the power or RF side.

Some two way radios are rated to 100 watts, thats a lot of amps of current when you transmit. These radios usually have a main power leads that should be connected to the battery or battery source direct (not spliced into some wiring). IF RF is the Issue, you have a problem with your coax between the radio and the antenna, or the antenna is much too close to the ECM. IF the antenna is mounted on top of the vehicles metal roof, the coax is almost certainly the problem if RF is the issue. look for bare spots or poor connections

What is best way to find a ground short in big truck?

what type of truck. Some of the newer trucks use the "cb" antennas for am/fm and tv. In this case i ran a separate coax to the passenger side antenna mount. This was in a Volvo 660.

My Saturn factory AM/FM radio on my 1996 SL gets some FM reception but no AM reception. I am trying to determine whether I need to repair the antenna or the radio.

You will need to pull the radio out of the dash and make sure the antenna is still pluged into the unit. If the antenna is in the windshield make sure the glass is not broken, and the wire broken. If there is an external antenn, you need to check the connection at the bottom of the antenna, and the wire is good between the antenna and the radio. Has any new items been mounted recently, the screws could have damaged the coax.

I have a whine in my dash that can be heard when the engine is reved. It feeds through to my CB radio when the radio is miked up

Interference may be caused by non - resistor spark plugs. If you don't want to change your plugs for resistor plugs, you may be able to get an inline resistor for the antennae from your local electronics supply store, like radio shack. Failing that, you can buy a cb antennae with a built in resistor coil that will also do the job. If you buy the new antennae, go to a cb shop to have your antennae tuned to your cb - it will increase your range and clean up your sound too.
Hope this helps, and please rate my solution!!

???????????????????????lost

2001 Expeditions don't have a conventional antenna. It's built into the windows. Unless its broken, you'll not need to install a new one. There is a conventional antenna coax cable with plug in the dash that will plug into your new stereo's antenna socket. That should do it.

If its broken, look for a scratch on your glass that breaks on of those conducting tracks, like rear window defrosters, and use a repair kit to fix it.

Hope this helps.
