Had to disconnect horn on 1996 buick ; need easy kit to replace

Heat and humidity screwed up the wheel horn; is there an easy fix such as a kit? I am not mechanically adept.

Keep car vented & clean the steering wheel rim also look for dampeness in the carpet & check your water level in the radiator as you may have a slight leak into the cabin resulting in it sweatting when closed up!

i would guess the switch in the steering wheel has an intermittent short, i.e. sometimes it "hits" itself without any touching. this is not rare. so you need to find a new horn switch, not easy on a 13 year old car, and i would stay away from junkyards as those switches are just as old. any GM dealer should be able to put you onto a GM NOS parts site, if there are any, the switches are common across many models and years. i know you can get them for old 90s saturns as i just replaced one.

generally you are going to have to disable the airbag and take the cosmetic cover off the steering wheel to replace the switch. you can usually find a youtube video of someone doing this. again any late 90s model GM product is going to be about the same so do not fret if you cannot find a 98 buick
video.

1995 buick lesabre horn goes off randomly and have to hit the steering wheel for it to stop

the contact in the steering wheel is shorting out, all you can do is replace it,, however,, any time your messing with the steering wheel or anything associated with it, you must use extreme care,, prior to doing anything, disconnect the Neg battery terminal,, then the positive one, and wait 10 minutes, this will allow the air bag system time to discharge, the last thing you need is the air bag going off, once this has been done, behind the wheel, there will be recessed screws that hold on the face of the steering wheel cover,, remove those, and pull off the cover gently,, your going to have a single wire, ( there are others, But your concerned with the single one, that's for the horn) make sure that is secure . if it seems that wire hasn't worked loose then your problem is going to be in the contacts on the horn buttons, some of these are actually molded into the cover and can't be replaced,, which would mean you have to replace the cover itself,,

I have a 1984 Buick Electra. The horn blows on and off when I turn the steering wheel. I had to disconnect the horn. Any suggestions?

Need to disassemble the steering wheel to access the horn button / switch -- there's something loose in there which is cauing a closed circuit when the steering wheel is turned. May be solved by tightening or the horn button / switch may need replacing.

Horn just starts a steady honkkkkkkkkkkkk just out of nowhere. Pressing the horn stops it but confused

the horn pad plastic trim (part of the airbag module) is distorted from heat, this causes the horn contacts within the pad to touch at times, you will need to replace the airbag for the steering wheel.

The horn on my 1995 buick leasbre is stuck i change the horn under the the hood on both sides and it still is stuck any idea

The contact point is in the steering wheel. You may need to remove airbag by disconnecting battery and removing the screws on backside of the steering wheel then a wire. The horn will be underneath the airbag. The horn contact will be a plastic insulator and a spring. Check here to see for broken parts. Good luck.

Horn wont stop

The button behind steering wheel and airbag may be stuck. I would remove the fuse for now until you can get at it..

How to replace the combination switch

You need to disconnect the battery.
Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouding
Remove the torx bolts that holds on the horn pad
Center the steering wheel
Remove the horn pad and disconnect the air bag
Remove the large nut that holds on the steering wheel
Bump to loosen, and remove the steering wheel.
Remove the spiral cable assembly; 4 screws
note: do NOT move the spiral cable left or right; you will damage it.
The combination switch retention screws will now be visible.

All in all, a pretty easy job.

Horn

You can unplug the horns under the hood but the relay will still be on draining your battery....the horn pad is warped and when it sits in the sun it will flex and make contact so you need to take the pad off (2 screws behind the wheel) disconnect the single wire from the pad and tape the end up
