Question about 2004 Isuzu Rodeo

2 Answers

2004 rodeo 3.2 engine keeps spitting up antifreeze thru the overflow bottle and is over heating i have no leaks in the system replaced water pump, radiator, thermostat and not losing coolant thru the exhaust nor is it in the oil. i can drive at freeway speeds without issue. one strange thing that happens is when i shut the engine off and restart after warming it always overheats. also when the temp gauge is reading hot the a/c goes warm and the heat goes cool. this symptom happens whether i run the car with or without a thermostat in the engine.... any thoughts?

It sounds like you may have a leaking head gasket or cracked head. I would suggest you do a compression test.

Check your viscus fan hub working correctly and radiator cap holds pressure to rating on cap
air cond is shut off by engine ECU due to engine temp. too high to aid in cooling quickly.
is thermo fan on front of radiator working when air cond on?
or if fitted with electric fan on inside (engine bay side) is this working correctly?
the wost posibility is block cylinder liners distorted from over heating previously causing leakage when warm then it over heats/spits out antifreeze due to combustion pressure leaking into cooling system can check with T.K. head check tool to confirm then possibly new short block/engine
have seen this several times on vehicles with overheating history.

Ive been putting water n my car due to small radiator leak water froze n overflow bottle n also froze n all the holes car won't start due to the ice wat can I do to melt ice n holes

Get the car towed to a garage that has heat and allow the water to thaw out. Then, drain the cooling system since there is too much water and not enough antifreeze in it. Now is a good time to repair/replace the leaking radiator. Refill and bleed the cooling system with a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. If you don't repair the radiator, keep some 50/50 mix available for topping off to prevent freeze-ups in future.

Antifreeze It's expected longevity and it's job forthe engine.

Antifreeze is just not another fluid to spend money on, it is important to replace this vital fluid every two years and here's why. Antifreeze coats the water pump and the thermostat and other engine metals so that it does not rust. Without it the thermostat would stick and cause the engine to overheat and destroy the engine, it also lubricates the water pump bearing making the pump last much longer without. If you run a car without anti freeze it will destroy your water pump and thermostat and pump it will also allow the engine to rust on the inside as well. Antifreeze also keeps the water from depositing harmful chemicals inside the block for instance if the water is high in calcium the heat coat the steel with the calcium in the engine will cause the engine not to cool it will cause a coating of calcium on the metal parts that will cause the antifreeze not to be able to draw the heat away from the metal causing hot spots in the block and causing premature engine failure. Always Mix the antifreeze with 50% water and %50 antifreeze this gives you the best protection for high temperatures and for the lowest temperatures. IF you change the antifreeze yourself be sure to catch the antifreeze in a bucket and dispose of properly. Antifreeze will attract animals cats dogs and birds and they will drink it and die so do not leave it out where pets or children can get to it. bottle it up and recycle it.
Many cars have different antifreeze types for instance Buick and other GM products has a gel like antifreeze and it needs to be change with the same type or it will damage the engine. many others require glycol antifreeze and this can be bought at any parts store. When changing antifreeze it is always a good ideal to replace the thermostat and the radiator cap. The reason is you already have the fluid drained and it is best to do it at that time it saves labor and time. Radiator caps will wear out, the rubber gasket fails over time and will not hold the correct pressure on the cooling system causing the engine to overheat, since the cap keeps keeps pressure on the cooling system it keeps the water or antifreeze from boiling over. Once the cap fails it will allow the liquid to boil and it will overheat the engine, What you can't see is where the liquid does not touch and that's next to the cylinder walls there air bubbles can form and cause hot spots on the cylinder walls, this causes ring failure and reduces the life of the engine dramatically.
Just a thought for you that love animals, they do make antifreeze that is pet friendly, (pets won't Drink it) most antifreeze is made out of crushed orange peel and the oil in the peel is sweet to animals and they are addicted to it, however this will kill them it shuts down their stomach. Just in case you want the pet friendly type anti freeze. Also if yo spill antifreeze you can buy a bag of cat litter to pick it up with. To do this spay a small amount of water on it then use the cat litter to pick it up put in a plastic bag and dispose in a trash can. The more you dilute it the less it attracts the animals.
While you are doing this now is a good time to check that the overflow tank hose does not have a hole in it or the overflow tank if either has a hole in it it can pump water out of the radiator and cause you to lose fluid out of the cooling system and cause the engine to over heat.

What is wrong with a saturn sl1 indicator says it is hot after running for 5 minutes

John sounds like your sensor may be bad. Next it could be your thermostat sticking use a temp gun and measure the temp of your radiator at the cap. Do not remove cap. Just take temp. If it is getting hot it should spit water out. Check to see if the electric fan is coming on the sensor to cut the fan on maybe bad or the fan. Hope this helps.

My coolant is leaking and its a big possibility it might be the water pupm or radiator but i think its just a hole in the container that holds the coolant, is ok if i put water in there constant to keep...

Stop leak is a temporary solution and never a long term fix. You need to locate the source of the leak and replace the faulty part. I also doubt that the coolant overflow reservoir is leaking unless something has been done to the vehicle to damage it.

Using water rather than the correct spec coolant mix as a top up is NOT recommended (even for a short period) because, among other things, the coolant mix provides lubrication for the water pump. Constantly adding water rather than the correct coolant mix dilutes the coolant mix and it becomes ineffective.

Your engine needs an efficient cooling system to survive so have the leak investigated and fixed saspo.
If you allow the engine to overheat you will cause very expensive engine damage and end up with a car you will not be able to drive. It is always cheaper to fix the problem.

Why is the car leaking antifreeze?vehicle leaking antifreeze and i do not know why, from where?

First check hoses and water pump while car is hot and running. If you find nothing then let car cool down and fill overflow container. Get engine hot again. When engine is hot turn off car and check the overflow tube coming out of the overflow tank. If it is spitting antifreeze then you have air in the system. Bleed system by opening the 7mm bleeder. You may have to do this a few times until all air is out of the system and overflow stops spitting antifreeze.

I have 1998 740i BMW that is overheating. 1) What are the warning signs of a bad water pump? 2) What are the warning signs of a blown head gasket? 3) What are the warning signs of bad timing?

Timing - engine is not sounding right or back firing.
Head gasket - water and oil mixing, see inside water bottle. or open bottle. rev engine when cold, if starts spitting water out while cold like a fountain.
Water pump - Water leaking from side of engine. or when car started and water bottle is open and no circulation is visible could be signs of water pump
Remember - Block radiator lines can also cause over heating problems and lack of water circulation.

2004 Chevy Impala no heat from defrost or heater

No heat is often a symptom of low coolant, usually followed by overheat. There are other controls that regulate heater, but right now, re-fill the cooling system with engine running and heater on high, then check for leaks (coolant you lost went need to determine where) Low coolant will damage your engine. Take care of that first, then if heater still does not work, then do diagnosis on that. (if you loose the engine heat won't matter, will it!)

2001 Hyundai Accent. Heating and stalls

If the water tends to keep going down then there has to be a leak somewhere. Try also looking at the hose coming from the overflow tank and see if the hose might be kinked. You might also be blowing antifreeze out the tailpipe. Take a look and if there is bluish white smoke then you have confirmed that theory,
