I have the same problem on my 2007 Mercedes E350, and cant get an accurate answer from any body, every body tell me different things even Mercedes Dealer. Help me!!!
If it has a floor mounted lever than it is shift on the fly for 4Hi,
however most people prefer to go slower or be fully stopped to make sure
it fully engages properly. To shift into 4-Lo, you have to be rolling
at about 3MPH with the transmission in NEUTRAL. On the floor mounted
shifter, firmly shift into Lo without pausing in neutral. Don't be
afraid to be forceful, it's designed to be engaged firmly and quickly.
Well. could be a number of things... One Transmission shift cable... with the salt cold and road debris it could be frozen... This is assuming that shift lever is not moving.. Let me know if thats the case and I will go into further detail which ever direction you give me
You can shift between 2Hi and 4Hi when the truck is moving. Just let off the gas and shift it. But in order to shift to Neutral or 4Lo you need to stop the truck and shift the transmission into neutral then shift the transfer case.
If all the gears including Reverse and Neutral show up in there proper place on the shift indicator your problem is either the linkage or the transmission. If your shift indicator is not lining up correctly you are probably putting the car in Second instead of Drive although Drive is showing. See if you can find neutral and go down 1 click regardless what it shows. Then try it. If that solves it, the little needle slipped and it is a simple adjustment to reset it.
