Remove fender well trim ( a few screws)
Remove front bumper COVER (not the bumper- the plastic cover)
About 14 screws. Mostly on the underside, get a creeper, and a few
on the top.
Remove the (left or right side) Headlight assembly ( a couple more screws).
One assembly contains the headlight, turn signal and running light. Unplug
the electrical connector from the assembly. All bulbs remove from the back
of the headlight assembly. Headlight is held in place by bail wire, smaller
bulbs are 1/4 turn.
you have to remove the inside door pannel first remove the arm rest two screws then remove the door latch assembly then remove the crank handle by removing c clip around the wndow knob unless electric, next pop the lower and side screws out of the corners then pop the snaps up from the door remove the lock tab at top pull pannel next gently remove the plastic that covers the door and straighten the rod out on the inside that goes to the outter door handle, if it's not hooked up then you will have to buy a plastic clip from toyota to replace it with.
with a small flat screwdriver, remove the 2 by 2 inch black plastic covers behind the steering wheel. one of them has a hole for the cruis control lever.
loosen but dont remove the two torx screws behind these covers.
allow the airbag to fall out into your hands.
carefully raise the two yellow retainers on the airbag wires, then pull the wires away from the airbag module.
then squeeze and pull the black horn wire from the airbag.
to replace the steering wheel, unplug all the wires you see and remove the 19mm nut holding the wheel.
then by hand wiggle the steering wheel toward you.
the black plastic is removed my prying away from the hatch, start with the most bottom piece.
the instructions in the owners book for changing the lamps shows this as well.
Try putting the engine back in and then refill the fuel tank with strawberry douch that should solve the proble you were havin in the first place. No need to remove engine.
I just looked at a Prius in my shop; there is a small plastic removable panel (approx 3" x 4") inside the rear compartment, facing the taillamps...lift the panel off, and you now have access to the bulb sockets.
