First you need to remove the horn button use a flat screwdriver to pop it out then get the right size socket and remove the large nut you see after the horn button is removed be careful this nut will be pretty tight easier to keep the sterring wheel locked when breaking this nut loose .after you get the nut removed insert the key into the ignition and turn the key to unlock the steering wheel you will not be able to pull the steering wheel off if it is locked now you have to be careful not to hit yourself as the wheel will suddenly just come loose sometimes it will take some muscle other time will come right out but you will have to try to rock it with both hands gripping it on 2 sides rocking it back and forth and should come out

My 2001 bmw 325 cic started making an awful grinding noise today when moving the steering wheel at all to the left or right. Can also hear the noise under the hood.

It sounds like your car is low on power steering fluid. When the power steering fluid is low, the power steering pump is running dry, which makes a grinding or moaning sound. Check the power steering fluid level and top up if necessary. It should be on the left side of the engine compartment. Your owners manual should have the exact location of the power steering reservoir, and what type of power steering fluid to use.
Good luck

I'd like to change my power steering pump in my bmw 2002 x5? how do i go about doing so? thank u.

there is no special procedure to replacing the pump.loosen the bolts on the front of the pulley before you remove the belt, remove the belt, lines, then the pump.fill fluid and turn the wheel back and forth to bleed the air out.after the air is out and the steering is not making any more noise top off the fluid

Sterring wheel controls. Radio and speed controls don't work.

It may be the clockspring in the steering wheel, keeps everything in connect from the steering wheel to the column.

My BMW 325i's steering wheel is locked and the car wont start.

Your steering column most likely is defective and you should be able to get this fixed under warranty. BMW discontinued this part in 2007. Its might go off if you put the key in the ignition and wait 5-10 minutes, but only maybe.

Have a 2003 BMW i want to change the steering wheel, has air bag. I want to make sure i dont set off the air bag, 1st thing i did is desconect the battery. then?

Carefully remove the cloumn housin, there are two wires which actually go up into the steering wheel if so disconnect them, if it has stereo controls etc on the the wheel, there is a plastic pushfit connector. Disconnect it. Behind the wheel the should be 4 bolts, undo the bolts and carefully, with a soft robber hammer, tap the wheel off the spline.

My steering wheel is locked up...called service they said to retry till it unlocked..what is wrong with it? Its a 2006 BMW 3 series.

Have you parked the car with the wheels turned fully one way , or is the wheel hitting the kerb

If so you will need to rock the steering wheel from side to side as you turn the key so that you take the weight off the pin which locks the steering wheel

2003 BMW 325I Power Steering

when looking at the engine with the hood up, look to the right hand side for something that looks like this (#1 in the pic):

it will be black in color, but don't confuse it with the oil filter housing. power steering reservoir will have a unique cap (#2 in the pic) that can be removed with your hand. the one that has the large nut on top is the oil filter. remove the cap and put in the correct fluid.

hope this helped.
