Hello mark_mack...The Neons water pump is an internal part which is powered by the timing belt. For installation all the accessories, belts, timing cover and motor mount has to be removed. Then the serpentine belt, the lower crank pulley has to be removed. The water pump is behind it and can be replaced in five minutes...just takes awhile to get to it. I would not recommennd doing this job without the knowledge and proper tools.
Note: this would be a good time to replace the timing belt as well, since you already have it removed.
Good luck..i hope this helps..please rate me a fixya.

If you don't know the location of the water pump I wouldn't attempt that job on your own there is a lot of parts to remove on that model just to access the pump.

i did it on my 95 neon i rent a tool at a store for the pulley an it was time consuming , clean the housing of the pump and for make it easier buy a instruction book 20 bucks or so, do the job on a hard surface and secure the car well, the hardest think is to put back the motor mount part by the way mark the timing belt or find the right position and put it back right.

We replaced the Water pump and Timing belt on a 1999 Plymouth Neon 2.0 Single Overhead Cam Engine. Engine Cranks, Is getting Fuel...but no spark. We changed the Coil Pack. It still cranks, but no...

If its not getting spark the choices are limited. You already replaced the coil pack so whats left is ignition module, crank sensor, knock sensor, cam sensor, or the timing was not was not set properly when putting it back together. Any one of those would create a no spark situation.

2000 plymouth neon, heat not working. heats only when car is moving? Please help!!!!

sounds like poor circulation of engine coolant. When stationary, if you increase the engine revs, does it blow hot ? if so, then i think it may be the water pump, that needs to be replaced. Have you lost any engine coolant, low level would also cause this problem. If so, then you need to see where you are losing the water and rectify that. Hope this helps

Where is the frost plug installed on a 2000 plymouth neon?

there are several.4-6 or more?? if the coolant is rusty, plan on doing all of them or sell the car. BIG $$$$...If you have not kept up with the coolant service, you will have much bigger problems later on. how many miles? at 90k miles replace the timing belt, tensioner and water pump, use factory chrysler parts only. if you dont and the belt breaks, or water pump siezes, the engine will be trashed.
