Question about Jeep Wrangler

I have an '02 jeep wrangler. Straight 6, 4.0 L

I have an '02 jeep wrangler tick. Straight 6, 4.0 L engine. I've developed a loud tick (pretty sure it's a lifter). After an oil change it goes away for awhile. Oil pump pressure was a little low so for $600 I got a new oil pump. Tick went away. What a relief. Tick returned. Mechanic says to use Rislone additive with oil change to get rid of the lifter tick. It may take a couple oil changes but it'll work. (Had 2 engine flushes on back-to-back oil changes too). It worked only to return at 1000 miles, then800 miles, then 400 miles. It's been 10,000 miles of multiple 10w-30 high mile Pennzoil oil changes with 1 quart Rislone. Tick is back. I'm going broke trying to get at this tick. What's up?

I have a 94 YJ gave me the same issues and I did all you did and more.
Finely I was told that penzoil has a parfin base which lends it self to the cause. I don't know if it is true or not I'm just a shade tree mech. I switched over to full synthetic and WA-LA It took a couple of changes after a good cleaning but I've been TICK free for a over a year now. since I do my own change it helps hold the cost down. I was also told I needed lifters and a rebuild & all that jazz so I figured that if she was gona die I'd deal with that when it happens so far so good.

If this vehicle has a high millage then you have worn bearing if the oil pressure go's to low then this would be the problem, if not then you should have your lifters replaced but check oil pressure if the noise comes back when the oil pressure drops then you need to over haul your engine. if this information has been useful please let use know good luck

Whats the best way to change out the valve cover gaskets on my 1993 Jeep Wrangler?

Wrangler 6 cylinders engines are a straight 6 engine with only one valve cover. The gasket for the valve cover is sold separately from the entire valve cover so it can be replaced.

What should the idle speed be set at on a 1989 jeep wrangler 4.2 liter straight 6 cyl. It has a 2bbl carb. It idles at 1000 rpm right now but seems fast or is that about right?

Most carb. engines should idle between 725 and 750 R.P.M., lower the idle and be sure to check the timing. You should have an emissions label under the hood to explain the idle and timing.

My jeep won't crank, it will turn over, but not fire, any ideas? I have an automatic straight 6, 4 liter 1991. I have replaced the coil and battery, has plenty of gas, but has been sitting for a couple...

Check to make sure the check engine light lights up in the dash, before cranking. If it does not come on, your jeep ecu is in need of repair.

I have an '02 Wrangler X. The know which

Providing that the control feels normal when you turn it, pretty likely it's not the problem. (of course you should check it) Most likely you have a problem with a plenum door or a control "motor" though...seems to be an unwelcome factory option on jeeps. No fun to service either.
