When i start the truck up it will not idle

When i start the truck up and and give it some gas it will stay running it will also black smoke indicating it may be flooded but as soon as i take my foot off the gas it dies simultaneousy.....I let it sit for a while and i had the idle screw turned out more to increase the idle to keep it running but i returned it to where it should be and it ran for a good 10 minutes and then simultaneously cut out again?

Is the engine at running temperature when it starts running rough? And when it is cool does it run fine until it warms up?

Check your Temperature sending unit. The unit goes bad and tells the computer that the engine is cold and it requires more fuel when it is cold. When the engine is warm the temperature sending unit is still telling it is cold because it is bad. They are not very expensive to replace.

Well if it is doing what you are saying it does and whenever it cools down it runs fine when you start it up and eventually runs rougher as it warms up I would say that is what it is but yes as always with a vehicle it could possibly be something else but in my experience that is one place to start.

Hard to start then black smoke out exhaust rough idle

Check the fuel pressure regulator. It may be bad. Pull off the vacuum hose to it and check for any sign of gas in the hose. A busted diaphragm in the regulator could let extra gas into the intake through the vacuum hose. The black smoke indicates it is getting too much gas-running rich.

My car will not idle its getting to much gas. blows black smoke out the tail pipe. runs at high speeds but not at idle? any suggestions?

It could be the cold start valve is staying on. I would also check the thermo-time switch. Check the cold start valve for power after the car is warmed up.

Black smoke when i start engine, very rough idle.

sounds like possible a sensor went bad or is loosly connected. O2 sensor??? Also check the air filter. Sounds like whatever it is, is making the truck run rich----that would be the black smoke.

Hope this helps

My engine runs rough and smokes excessively when the engine idles or you start to give it gas

BLACK smoke is unburned gas and is idication of a very rich intake mixture..

WHITE smoke is steam and is indication of a serious problem such as blown head gasket or a cracked head or both..

BLUE-ish smoke is oil and is indication of bad valve seals or pistion rings or both..

Have you checked the air cleaner? .The computer should be read to see what problems are indicated. It doesn't seem that you are getting very good gas mileage. Black smoke means high fuel use!

Check the coolant temperature sensor. The thick black smoke is an indication it is flooding or getting to much fuel. The CTS is critical for fuel metering on start up.
