Question about Chevrolet S 10

3 Answers

I have a 2000 chevrolet S-10 with a 4.3L V-6. Today my son was playing around in the cab and turned on the headlights and I didn't notice they were on and the battery discharged. I attempted to jump start the truck, however this did nothing. Now, there is 12.49VDC at the battery, however when you get in the vehicle--there's no dome light, gauges, or radio (everythings dead). Also, if you turn the key--it will not crank and virtually nothing will happen. The headlights will not come on either. I have checked all the fuses, and checked the battery terminals. I have disconnected the battery and attempted to "reset" the computer. Any ideas? BTW this vehicle is stranded at walmart parking lot therefore running out to the vehicle to perform troubleshooting checks is not an option. I'm think possibly a starter solenoid, or a relay, or possibly a anti-theft feature is the culprit.

There is a large (I think 100 amp) fuse that feeds the entire fuse box. If when you jump started it something happened that caused that to blow it would cause all the symptoms that you are describing.
On that truck. I think it is under the battery tray. (It is not a conventional looking fuse, it has one wire that bolts to each side of it.)

Try this:

You will need to remove the battery and the tray. Under the tray about 8 to 10 inches down there will be a black box 1 inch by about 4inches. Remove the cover, there is a mega fuse there. Should be a 175 amp fuse. With a test light connected to ground, touch both sides of the fuse. If it only lights on one side its bad.

That fuse feeds the underhood fuse box which controls all the things you say don't work.
