If you just want them off - disconect the battery for about 10 mints. If you want to find out what is wrong go to local auto parts and ask if they will ck for free then see what codes are there and fixit.

Engine light stays on while running, low idle

You need to have the pcm scanned for fault codes. If it is newer than a 1996 model, Autozone will scan it for free and tell you the fault codes. A mechanic would go from there, based on what the codes reveal. The low idle is probably a symptom of the fault.
Anytime the MIL light stays on with the engine running, the pcm (engine computer) has detected a fault and will turn the light on. It also stores a trouble code in memory, maybe called a pending code if only recently started, but the code can be found with a hand held scanner, hooked up to the port under the dash for code retrieval.
When you have done the repairs, and the old codes erased, you will see that the engine light always turns on when the key is turned on. If there are no more problems , the light will go out very quickly after the engine is running. It is a bulb and computer check that the light is on with key on, and stays on until the engine is started.

An orange light indicating carbon emission turns on while the car is used which fails to turn off even after servicing. what is the reason

If you are referring to the check engine light than there is a logical explanation. The engines computer continuously monitors various functions of the vehicles engine management. When a fault is detected the check engine light is turned on to alert you that there is a problem. Codes are stored in the engines computer. These codes will help you further pinpoint the actual problem.

In order to see what these codes are you will need a code reader or a scan tool or a local parts store (many will pull codes for free). Once you know what the codes are post them in the "comments" below and I'll do my best to help you out.

How to turn off check engine light in 98 740il

All cars marketed in the U.S. in the year 1996 and later have to have a standard OBD-II connector inside the car under the dash on the driver's side.

With an OBD-II Scanner one can scan the codes that are indicating trouble in the engine.

After repairs are made, the light can be turned off by pressing the 'erase code' button on the scanner.

If one is experiencing an intermitent code, the code may be turned off with the 'erase code' button on the scanner to temporarily turn the check engine light off, until circumstances make the light turn back on.

How do you turn off the check engine light

The check engine light is designed to function only when there is a engine fault. To turn this light off you will need to visit your auto parts store. Orielly's and Autozone both carry code scanners that you can barrow in the parking lot. And they may even come out and check the codes for you. Once the codes have been retrieved you have the option to reset the check engine light to turn it off. However, if the engine has a hard code or a faulty sensor the light may come back on immediately after you start the car.
I would suggest having the codes read and the MIL reset and try to determine the issue causing the MIL to come on.
