You need to find someone who has a code reader or go down and buy you a book such as a haynes repair book on your vehicle which will be around 15 to 20 dollars. Most of the parts stores have them and they are in laymen terms so you can understand them. They will tell you how to retrieve the codes without spending alot of money on a code reader. They will give you suggestions on how to repair the problem based on the codes your vehicle will have on them. That is why your service engine light is on. The computer has detected a problem. Also your sending unit in your tank could be bad and that is why it does not register any fuel.

P0172 fault code

It could be an emmissions problem. Sometimes even the gas cap being loose can cause a code. Make sure to tighten the cap when done refuelling...you should hear repetitive clicks when its tight. Other components related to code p0172 are o2 sensor(bank 1) and catalytic converters. Hope this helps!

My check engine light came on, 'i had it read, the read said that the coils were bad, I filled the gas tank and the light went off, what's wrong?

Hard to say. The gas cap might have been loose. That will turn the Chk Eng light on. When you filled the gas tank you made the cap tight again.

Get the codes read again if the light comes on again.

Make sure it's tight - IE: turn until it clicks 3 times (According to GM) that or the vent tube has a vac leak

Got scan problem numbr P0442 Check engine is

Po442 is an evap leak, this is the fumes from the gas tank, check vacuum lines from engine compartment for any cracks or splits also make sure gas cap is tight and gasket is good, most of the time this is caused from a bad fuel cap, i would replace the gas cap make sure its on tight then drive for a week if the light goes out then problem solved if light is still on after a week of driving then there a leak is the system. hope this helps.

Check engine light came on Tuesday afternoon, after I filled the gas tank on Monday afternoon. If the check engine light came on because of the gas cap not being on tight enough, do I just tighten the gas...

Check engine light might have came on because of loose gas tank cap, but it's a good idea to read the code and check if it's not something else, you can take your car to an Auto Zone and they read the code for free and tell you the cause also. But if you want to reset the check engine light, only way is to disconnect the battery terminals and let it set overnight, check engine light will be reset. Hope it helps and let me know if you need more advice. Please don't forget to rate the answer it helps with my ratings, thanks!

Tighten Gas Cap Error Message

seems that your vent hose on the tank is plugged so the tank is over pressurrizing sending the error code and not allowing you to fill it all the way unclog the vent tube and this will solve the problem

Check engine light is on

most of the time it is because the gas cap isn't on tight. Make sure it is and sometimes the light will go out in an hour or so. The loose cap tells the computer that there is a vapor leak which causes the warning light to come on..My car repair man told me this and it did take care of the problem. Hope this helps..

2005 Ford Tarus Check fuel cap light

I don't think this will help but I'm willing to share my experience. My gas cap light stays on all the time. I was told to buy a new gas cap. (from different stores I bought 5). Everytime I would replace the cap the light would go away for a day or 2 but returned and is still on. The Dealership said it has been happening but nothing to worry about. I have had no troubles because of it, just annoying.
