use your arm and perform hand signals.

Fairly easy. Best way I found was to go to a upic used parts place and remove one from a vehicle same as yours. That gives you an idea how it goes and if you break something it's not an issue. But if you have a new one it is still an easy job. Unscrew the plastic pieces around the steering shaft. Screws are prob on the bottom. Once you get them off there will be a couple screws holding the arm in place. Unscrew. Disconnect wire. Replace.

the back ones have to be blinking alot faster since the fronts don't work,start by replacing the bulbs first.

Sounds like you need a new multifunction switch. Something in the switch is not releasing properly.

You'll have to replace the blinker arm assembly. I had the same issue with my '99 GT. It turned out that a couple of the electrical traces had arced and fused together. You might be able to fix it yourself if you're electricly inclined. Otherwise it's only a couple of screws to pull off the top cover and then another for the blinker/wiper arm assembly.

happened in my 1997 dodge avenger, go ahead and replace the complete turn signal behind the plastic on the columb, very easy to do, 3 screws under the columb, 2 screws on the black plastic side of the turnsignal swithch facing the drivers side door, unplug, put in new or one out of junk yard, thats what i did and it fixed no problem...

The simple solution could be the turn signal flasher (which are generally located under the dashboard). Very inexpensive. But you say that smoke was coming out of the turn signal arm. In that case it could be shorted out. To replace the turn signal arm assembly is pretty expensive. Maybe around $200.00 for parts and labor at a shop. Good Luck!

find / replace the flasher relay... should be two of them.. one is for the turn signals
